Debunking the Myth: There is No Biblical Basis for Global Warming Alarmism Says Theologian
Newsbusters ^ | May 19, 2010 | Jeff Poor

It's a popular argument used by many in the global warming alarmist activist community - that there's a Christian basis for combating the threat of so-called anthropogenic global warming. In 2008, former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean admitted as much - that his party use this issue in particular to win over the Christian community.

And it is one that has been echoed by the media as well. From The Washington Post to CNN, the press has propagated the belief that Holy Scripture teaches that man has a responsibility to combat global warming. But that's not the case, according to Dr. Calvin Beisner of the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation. Beisner, speaking at the Heartland Institute's International Conference on Climate Change on May 18 in Chicago, was asked if there was any Biblical basis that would lead evangelical Christians to assume they had a duty to join the anti-global warming bandwagon.

"I don't think they have any good Biblical basis at all," Beisner said. "What they do is they jump quickly from the Biblical teaching that we're supposed to be caring for the poor to ‘global warming is going to hurt the poor more than it hurts anybody else,' which by the way is true of every problem. You know, poverty makes you vulnerable, period. Wealth makes you less vulnerable, period. There's even a proverb in the book of Proverbs that says essentially that."

Only with a complicit “Orwellian” Pravda Media could we be told that there WAS NO RED MENACE in the 20th Century and that the global warming hysteria is grounded in science.

Envy for your neighbor's property and Theft are BOTH against the 10 Commandments.

If they cared about anything except income redistribution they would talk about the biblical principle of stewardship and the Earth.

If the ice-caps melt due to Global Warming then the earth will be flooded. The following indicates that this could not happen.

Genesis 8-

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: "I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth.

I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth."

In intelligent minds, but intelligent religious people already know this and have either ignored it because they like getting the power that being a ‘reformer’ brings or they go around debunking it because it’s the right thing to do. The minds that matter, the ignorant and especially the poor, buy the charge without being able or interested in knowing why. Explaining it in theological terms might even be worse than in secular ones.

This is a no-win angle, IMHO (and I’m a faithful Catholic to whom theology is very important). The practical effect of getting the lies out there first is what matters here, not the truth.

Sadly enough.

Yep, we all ought to be following Biblical principles such as abortion, dictatorial government expansion, worship of Mother Gaia and Father Sky. Those Biblical injunctions are a two-edged sword.

Gen 8:22 - "While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."

That's all I need to know.

...and don't forget that in the end, it all burns up anyway.

Indeed, as much venom that the libs have thrown at the bible and now want to use it???

There are strong admonitions to be good stewards and I agree, but, the last thing I need to hear is a sermon from these people!

I think the Theologian has his head up his arse.... Of course it is there. Many times and in many ways.

One of the easiest ways to see it is in Matthew 13 and the tares in the wheat parable during end times. The weeds will be burned.

Giving a prayerful blessing to an evil person is like piling hot coals on top of their head.....

When the pure presence of the Divine Spirit is upon us, the same thing will happen to evil that happened to the eunuch who touched the ark of the covenant in the OT. Impurity cannot exist in the presence of purity. It gets burned.

This is the same reason why Polycarp and Justin Martyr were not burned by the fires when they were being persecuted. The presence of the Holy Spirit protects one from the fire.

There are many instances....

7And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

8And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

9And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

This should be obvious: the Bible is not a science textbook.

Christians who fall for this malarky have some serious soul-searching to do.

“”This should be obvious: the Bible is not a science textbook.””

But it is. The pathway to knowing and experiencing God is both scientific and logical. You just have to have a level of knowledge and understanding sufficient to understand it.

There is much more to understand than just the superficial words. And... “Soul Searching” is exactly what most Chrisitans are doing! It’s an important part of the growth process.

That’s true. I personally find it hard to believe that people who call themselves Christians, as I do, can believe that the world is spinning out of control, the world “needs” OUR help to stop climate change. (Whatever that is).
While a Christian must respect Gods creation, don’t trash it, be respectful, all that; it is fool-hardy and completely wrong to believe that our Almighty God is not in control.
I personally believe the climate is changing, I also believe that it is normal, and again, God is in control. Nothing to get exited about.
