Come to Kentucky, Rand Paul tells Obama (Paul taunts Obama; he may endorse J.D. over McCain)
CNN - Political Ticker ^ | 2010-05-19

(CNN) – Fresh off his win in Kentucky's Republican Senate primary, Dr. Rand Paul is welcoming the attention from national Democrats that his insurgent, Tea Party-backed candidacy is generating.

Tim Kaine, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, took a shot at Paul during a press conference in Washington Wednesday.

Kaine said Paul "represents the most extreme elements of the Republican Party - a candidate who has vowed to abolish the Departments of Education and the Federal Reserve; who vows to oppose, oppose, oppose at a time when we need constructive solutions to the challenges we face."

Asked about Kaine's comments in an interview set to air on CNN's John King, USA, Paul told Democrats to "bring it on."

(snip)

And Paul, the son of former Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul, also weighed in Arizona's upcoming Republican Senate primary. In that race, Sen. John McCain, the GOP's recent standard bearer, is locked in a tough contest with former Rep. J. D. Hayworth, who is also enjoying support from the Tea Party movement.

Asked whether he has a preference in the McCain-Hayworth race, Paul left the door open to backing Hayworth in his effort to unseat McCain.

"I haven't looked at it closely enough to know yet, but I do know that I have some similarities with former Congressman Hayworth and we will look at the race," Paul told King.

Good pick - if she wins there will be a good number of people here talking about her in the same breath as Palin and Bachman.

It is a platform of conservatism and constitutionalism. We don’t want to return to George W Bush we want to return to George Washington. I support Paul because he is articulate and isn’t afraid to say what he is ready to cut out of government. Show me Republicans that are as brave as that and I’ll support them. I’m tired of weak swill. Rand Paul will win this race handily and the GOP will be good to learn from it.

In the way that a baseball bat to the knee is “better” than a claw hammer to the skull, perhaps. I’ll do what I can to avoid both, thank you very much.

So you’ll do what you can to avoid someone who wants to cut big government to the same extent that you’ll do what you can to avoid someone who wants to support endless entitlements and big government?

Not me.

Oh, I understand that re: the platform. And, I agree with you regarding weak Republicans who talk out of both sides of their mouths. I’m sick of that, too...

I just really hope the GOP DOES pay attention and not just to “save themselves”. It is a lesson that they need to learn... I just hope they really can! I don’t know if there are enough true statesmen (or women) out there in positions with enough power and money behind them to remake this grassroots movement into a real contender in the 3rd party arena. And, it seems like a lot want to see it that way... I’m just cautious is all - and very cynical! LOL

I’ve poured blood, sweat, and tears into 3rd party campaigns years back - and without quality people, and a TON of money it’s a VERY hard row to hoe.

Those are your words, not mine.

I prefer to avoid pro-choice for states, isolationist Big L Libertarians. Which is what the Pauls are when they’re not up for election.

I thought most of you on FR said that Rand was a loon like his father? HAHA!

So, am I assuming correctly then, that you are a troll?

I’ve always been opposed to third party candidates, for many reasons. But this time, it’s different. I am sick to death of rino republicans. The world is changing, our country is changing, and our people are waking up. If there’s a time for an outsider to win big, I think it may be now.

No, I haven’t noticed “most” of FR against him. Some yes. Others like myself cautious due to his father. But I did support him if for no other reason I felt he was unlikely to be McConnell’s lackey.

I want him to win and I hope he does help J.D.

any conservative politician that firmly believes in SLASHING the federal government is a marked improvement of the idiots we currently have, by and large.

I have, EV. About 90% of what I knew of him was at one point, here-say, from the media, what others said about him. Then I saw him in a couple of tough interviews, and was surprised, because for me he passed, with flying colors. I found myself really liking him, and I am glad he won.

I hope Rand is not back-pedaling already, and that he backs the other tea party candidate-J.D. Hayworth.

I hope Rand stays far away from J.D. He's a loon who is only popular because he is taking on McCain. He was a party hack when in congress and got voted out because he was tied to the hip with Abramoff and the Indian Tribe money.

Palin supported Rand. Her support of McCain is not strictly because of loyalty.

LMAO -— He has nothing in common with J.D.

He has more in common with McCain when it comes to his stance on closing GITMO, his B.S. flip flops on earmarks and having Palin’s endorsement.
