Immigration crackdown for Illinois(ICE Chief Against AZ 1070)

Snip...

Echoing comments by President Barack Obama and others in the administration, Morton said that Arizona's new law targeting illegal immigration is not "good government." The law makes it a crime to be in the state illegally and requires police to check suspects for immigration paperwork.

Morton said his agency will not necessarily process illegal immigrants referred to them by Arizona officials. The best way to reduce illegal immigration is through a comprehensive federal approach, not a patchwork of state laws, he said.

"I don't think the Arizona law, or laws like it, are the solution," Morton said.

I don’t understand this at all. I was able to do a study abroad in the Czech republic in college at a studio in Prague. I had to apply for a special work permit and visa since I would be there for a few months. I had to carry my ID at all times to prove I was a legal visitor and worker.

Every other country on earth you need to verify you are there legally, why not here?

Yes, this detail is lost on the general American public that haven't traveled outside of the U.S., and our government will never bring it up as a contrast.

Morton must not like Federal Law. For a guy who claims to have been an attorney, he like Holder never read the bill. Pity that people who hold such powerful position have no knowledge of the law. I think it’s time to remove these people from their positions of authority

Yeah, Illinois is a prime example of honest, efficient government.

Not.

I don’t think you do understand kiki04. American citizens have the freedom to move about the country without the authorities asking for you ID (unless they have probable cause to believe a crime has been committed by you). Illegal immigration is the “probable cause”.

ICE is a joke. Every Federal agency does exactly the opposite of what they are supposed to do.

If the head of an enforcement agency, appointed by the President of the United States, allows their agency to refuse to enforce the law and the President does not take action to cause that appointee/agency to act, is that not then grounds for impeachment of the President?

If the feds refuse to do their job, a solution for Arizona would be to erect some Joe Arpaio style tent jails near the border. All illegals detained in the State would be sent there for “detailed biometric information” processing.

This would include a comprehensive DNA test, not just the much simpler 14 point data set DNA test typically used by the police. This could take many weeks to process, which would be done consecutively, not concurrently, with their serving their sentence for trespassing.

However, after typical processing, if they agreed to *voluntarily* cross back over the border, they would be returned to Mexico, so there would be no possibility of the federal “catch and release” program leaving them to run free in the US.

This would also mean that if they tried to come back to the US again, they would be looking at yet another week of trudging across the Sonora desert, after paying another big bribe to a coyote, and with no guarantee of making it back.

I can almost guarantee that the feds would scream bloody murder about this, because *most* captured Mexicans would choose to go back to Mexico, instead of sweltering in a tent for weeks or months.

I was thinking the exact same thing —Arpaio tent camps, complete with pink jumpsuits, baloney sandwiches and water for every meal, and chain gang hard labor every day from dawn to dusk. No TV, no workshops, no library, no gym.

If the Feds won’t process them and deport them, it would be cheaper for the AZ budget to keep them in that kind of detention forever than it would to police them and the street crime they cause.

And we have tons of trash left laying around our National Forests down here that the incarcerated illegals could pick up while working on a Sheriff Joe-style chain gang!
