FAST FACTS:
* Two West Memphis police officers were shot and killed * Police tracked a van to a Walmart parking lot in West Memphis, AR * There was a shootout and the Crittenden County Sheriff was shot as was his Chief of Patrol * Suspect shot dead
(West Memphis, AR 5/20/2010) Two West Memphis police officers were shot and killed at I-40 and Airport Road in West Memphis, AR thursday morning.
Brandon Paudert, son of West Memphis Police Chief Bob Paudert, was killed as was officer Bill Evans.
Investigators say Evans stopped a van and Paudert arrived soon after as backup.
It appears one of the men in the van pushed Evans to the ground and started shooting at both officers.
Police were looking for white Plymouth Caravan van with Ohio plates.
Around 1:20pm, police surrounded a Walmart in West Memphis where the van was found with no license plate.
News Channel 3 caught on tape, a gun fight between officers and the suspects.
During that shootout, Crittenden County sheriff Dick Busby was shot once in the shoulder.
West Memphis Chief of Enforcement, W.A. Wren was shot multiple times in the abdomen.
Busby's condition is not known but he appeared alert when being put in the ambulance.
Wren is said to be in critical condition.
The two suspects were killed in the shootout.
The van has been traced to a church in Ohio which we've learned has been linked to a white supremacist group.
A source tells us the church closed about 10-years ago after it was infiltrated by the FBI.
People were calling local talk shows and blaming the TEA party before much was known. I suspect this will get worse as the criminals turned out to be White Supremicists (which they will find a way to link.)
Racists from Ohio?!?!?!? Shocked I say, I thought they were all from the soooouutthhh!!!
(PS I am in Whitehaven right now, so I know the area)
“infiltrated by the FBI”
Almost always means somebody’s gonna die.
I’ll wait till a bit more is known.
Yep, all White crime is committed by White Supremacists and Tea Party members. /s
Gag me with a pitchfork!
I agree. The mantra now is that the Tea Partiers are racist.
By the way, does anyone know what the initial stop was for?
“The church closed ten years ago”.
If the van is “linked” to a white supremicist church, and the church closed 10 years ago, just how old is the registration?
They still have not announced what the stop was for, but the two officers killed were involved in drug interdiction duty.
You can expect such accusations out of Memphis. Many take their marching orders from the plantation masters.
The MSM will be EAGERLY looking into this, hoping that the killers were white and tea party supporters.
Does anyone know if drugs were found in the van? Perhaps someone tipped them off? That happens quite often in highway busts. I hate stories without details.
We have to go as far north as Indiana to find any KKK.
I heard a report on the local radio that Fox News is saying it’s a stolen van and the suspects were illegals.
They will be blaming the police next.
Now THAT would kill this story nationally even faster.
A very relevant question, indeed. And, if the Memphis media would bother to check the local paper in Clinton County, Ohio (where the white supremacist church), they would discover that there’s been no activity at that location for some time. A few salient quotes from the Wilmington (OH) News-Journal:
Names and addresses of the suspects were not available at press time, but Colonel Brian Prickett, chief deputy with the Clinton County Sheriffs Office, said he did not believe they were from Clinton County.
The van was registered to the white supremacy church in New Vienna, Prickett said. That church has not been open for a long time.
New Vienna Police Chief James Holcomb said he has not seen any activity at the storefront church, located at 143 Main St. in New Vienna.
[snip]
The nondescript building that housed the church had no sign of its former tenant, and several local residents said they did not know exactly how long the church had been closed. Its been at least 10 or 11 years, but I cant say for sure, said one unidentified man.
That’s not to say the white supremacists weren’t involved in the shootout. But if they were, the group was obviously operating from a different location.
But why keep the registration in Clinton County? And, as you indicate, how old was the registration and the plates on the van? Expired plates are one of the quickest ways to get pulled over by the cops.
And, has anyone raised the possibility the van was stolen, and the new “owners” were riding around with plates and registration from days when it belonged to the supremacist church?
I don’t have a law enforcement background, but I’ve noticed a rather curious trend when it comes to high-profile crimes and information that might be embarassing to the federal government. In the hours after the event, there is a near-total news blackout, and then the info starts leaking out in well-controlled drips and drabs.
To be fair, the blackout is sometimes necessary to apprehend other fugitives related to the case. I’m not sure if that’s part of the current media blackout. But one thing is clear: at this point, law enforcement (particularly the feds) almost certainly have a positive ID on the suspects, but no names have been released. We saw the same behavior after the Ft Hood shooting and the underwear bomber.
I don’t think this is terrorism-related. But I do believe there’s a good chance that illegal aliens/Mexican drug gangs were involved in this incident. And they’re probably waiting to get Felipe Calderone out of the country before announcing that two of his “citizens” were responsible for the murder of two Arkansas policemen, and the wounding of two others.
bookmark for later
And they are??????
