Calderon urges U.S. to reinstate assault weapons ban. (from my cold dead hands!)

In a speech to a joint session of Congress, Calderon described efforts to fight organized crime in Mexico, where 23,000 people have been killed in drug violence since he came to power in late 2006 and launched an army offensive.

Washington is also aiding Mexico's battle against drug gangs with a 2007 pledge of $1.4 billion for equipment and police training to help fight the cartels that ship some $40 billion worth of illegal drugs north each year.

"There is one issue where Mexico needs your cooperation. And that is stopping the flow of assault weapons and other deadly arms across the border," Calderon said to a standing ovation from U.S. lawmakers.

Calderon said the increase in violence in Mexico had coincided with the 2004 lifting of a U.S. assault weapons ban.

The 10-year ban on the sale of assault weapons to civilians expired without being extended by Congress. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has said the administration favors reinstituting the ban, though guns rights groups oppose it.

Calderon said he respects Americans' Second Amendment right to bear arms but said many of the guns are getting into the hands of criminals.

"I would ask Congress to help us, with respect, and to understand how important it is for us that you enforce current laws to stem the supply of these weapons to criminals and consider reinstating the assault weapons ban," he said.

"It was inappropriate for President Calderon to lecture Americans on our own state and federal laws," said Senator John Cornyn, a member of the Republican leadership. "Moreover, the Second Amendment is not a subject open for diplomatic negotiation, with Mexico or any other nation."

What a coincedence. We also have a 'flow' across 'the border' that we are also trying to stop. But when we try to do something about it, you complain...(to a standing ovation...sad).

“Calderon said he respects Americans’ Second Amendment right to bear arms but said many of the guns are getting into the hands of criminals. “

Keep YOUR citizens on YOUR side of the border and OUR guns won’t be there!

This gun thing is WAY overblown. The cartels use automatic weapons, IEDs, ...all of them illegal here. We have articles here on FR showing they get arms from China and elsewhere.

Mexico needs the 2nd amendment. Deport them directly to Mexico city with a gun and let them clean up their own mess.

While Calderon was spewing out Obamao’s turds he had been filled with, it’s not unlike the seepage that normally comes out of him. This has nothing to do with illegal guns in Mexico, most of which aren’t guns that are legal for most US citizens to own, automatics, something the assault weapons ban doesn’t address. The real point is that Mexico’s citizens are subjects, peons really, who can’t legally possess firearms, and yet the real power brokers, drug lords, have no trouble acquiring automatic weapons. The problem is Mexico is politics, in that it is a joke, similar to what Obamao is seeking to do to us.

Why doesn't he ask China to quit making the weapons?

Why doesn't he take all those unemployed mexicans draft them and close the northern border like their southern border

The answer, he wants a weakened U.S. as a money funnel.........calderon is a whore, obama is his enabler.

This is logical. He views the flow of Mexico’s unwanted north across the border as “migration”, not even immigration. if the people that are being invaded are armed, they might someday band together to resist the “migration” and make Mexico’s unwanted fear making such a journey.

If he can get the US Government to disarm the people who might resist his wishes, he’s saved himself lots of time and effort.

“He doesn’t want any resistance to the invasion.”

Think of it, Regulator, our congress and President standing by an invading nation instead of one of our own states, the rule of law and the 2nd amendment. I’ve never seen anything like it in my lifetime.

“Calderon said the increase in violence in Mexico had coincided with the 2004 lifting of a U.S. assault weapons ban. “

It also coincided with a 4 cent increase in the wholesale price of bananas.

Ah yes, Mexico, with its unblemished record of gun and crime control, is now advising the US on domestic policy.

In other news, Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker are appointed as federal bank examiners, Bill Clinton is tapped to head up the nation’s new “Chastity Initiative,” and Mohandas Gandhi is confirmed as Secretary of War.

Mirrors what Rush said this morning. Obama has sided with a foreign power, and against the United States.

TREASON, anyone?

That's polite Texan for "FUFC, you dickless asshole!"

Proud to have Cornyn as my Sinator (as opposed to The Mummy from NJ, who was my Sinator until I escaped that dark and fascist hellhole).

Molon Labe, you pinche pendeja! I'm here in San Antonio with a bunch of my best friends and neighbors, just waiting for tu and the other loser descendants of that supreme loser, Santa Ana, to come for Round 2. I promise you that it won't turn out so well for your side this time. Crocket, Bowie, Travis and the other heroes of the Alamo didn't have many tens of thousands loaded for bear with AR15s, M1As, Garands and Remington 700s, to say nothing of the large number of full autos that I've seen (and heard) around here. C'mon, pendeja, let's see what you've got. Let's see if you can even get past Laredo and Brownsville before our old ladies kick the ass of your drug gang army.
