Former First Daughter Barbara Bush Calls for Global Health Equity...
PR Newswire ^ | May 17, 2010 | National Press Club

Posted on 05/21/2010 10:10:09 PM PDT by SunkenCiv

Barbara Bush will speak out about the extreme disparity in health care between the world's rich and poor at a National Press Club luncheon on Wednesday, May 26 and describe what the non-profit she heads is doing to improve public health in underserved communities here and abroad.

Bush, 28, is the president of the Global Health Corps (www.ghcorps.org) , a group she helped found two years ago with input from her sister Jenna. The organization places recent college graduates in yearlong fellowships aimed at improving health care access. The first 22 fellows were assigned to 12 project sites in East Africa and the United States and this year the goal is to place 36 fellows. Global Health Corps partners include the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative, Dr. Paul Farmer's Partners in Health, Covenant House International and the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

A 2004 graduate of Yale, Bush interned for a children's hospital in Capetown, South Africa, and for UNICEF in Botswana and has traveled extensively in Africa with the UN World Food Program. "It was frustrating that most kids were suffering from totally preventable diseases, like malaria and diarrhea," she has said of her time in Africa. "It made me think – how can we solve these issues if the same people keep asking the same questions?"

just admit by giving them a decent government they could acquire these things on their own
Uh-oh, watch out, that sounds like American adventurism and neo-conism! You're in for it now! ;')

Yes, the alternatives were not acceptable. Both Presidents, Bush Sr. and W are progressives (better thought of as sick twisted way of thinking). They are believers that this world will be a better place with a one world government—with no wars, everybody being on the same page. Utopia! Good people (educated elites) know what is best for all the masses.

Here’s the kicker.....WHO will be the elites, the cabal, that controls these things. W thought it was going to be a godly group, so he was ever so hopeful. He is wrong. It will be Satan but he really honestly doesn’t understand where that road to serfdom HAS to end. He is deluded as are so many Republicans who want to do what is good.

Milton Friedman put it best about Greed, Virtue, Capitalism:

That’s one of the problems. They are still immature kids. I am tired of these kinds thinking they can run the country on sound bites.

" Will Megan McCain be there too? "

No, she has an appointment to have her stomach and mouth stapled that day.

At the consultation, she told the doctor she wanted a second opinion.

He replied, "Your ugly TOO!"

They think they are building the road to Utopia, and what is frightening is they know how to build it. However, they have been deluded by that same demon that has driven so many in the past. They are what our Founding Fathers wanted to protect this nation from. They seek conquest and power that masquerades as doing the public good. It is a ploy: Create the crisis to take advantage of ones fellow man.

I am one that is convinced that the banking collapse was orchestrated. The trigger was Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. We know the Democrat operatives that were actively working in those institutions. The gunpowder was the derivatives market. If you know your history, this is the same type of collapse that happened with the Banking Collapse of 1908. Instead of derivatives, they were called Bucket Shops.

I am.

Lovely to see this young lady working on a noble cause. I’ve never been on a medical mission or worked in an underserved nation, but I know those who have, and I admire them.

Good people don’t always agree on every issue. I agree with most of what’s said here on FR, but I also respect those opinions contrary to my own.

That’s also how I view the Bushes — agree on some things, disagree on others, but I admire them tremendously for class, character, and walking with honor through brutal times.

As Rush says, the root of global poverty is NOT unequal distribution of wealth; it's unequal distribution of economic freedom.

I don’t mind saying that George W. Bush is a much more legitimate conservative agent that the nonsense spouted against him in the name of conservatism.

It fascinates me how the Media can put an equity headline on the Bush daughter’s conservative rhetoric and Bush bashers believe the Media rather than the good private actions of the daughter.

The Bush reactionaries of all stripes gave us Obama— including the faux conservatives who pretend to adhere to some unknown yet unimplemented vision of conservatism.

The Bush bashers need to drop their obsession—including Obama. Critical thinking has departed from partisans on the Left and Right.

The Bush girls, their mother, and even their grandfather have been given into the Dark Side. Jenna pals around with Clinton and acts like he’s part of their family. Laura is supporting 1 left wing cause after another, and now what seems like another Obama redistribution scheme from Barbara.

Let’s face it the fish rots from the head down, Great Grandad Prescott Bush went along with the Sellout of Senator McCarthy when he was on target about Alger Hiss and other USSR moles in our government. President Bush’s New World order and CIA crap and doing everything to defeat Reagan and that he was chosen as VP. I think he was a big reason Ronald Reagan was unable to do more to get us back to Constitutional size Government. Then George W’s compassionate conservatism.

This family is being presented to us by the media as right wingers or nearly ultra conservatives since 1999. Other than Global Warming and Obama as moderate, the Bush family Ideological portrayal is the biggest hoax going.

The Bushes cost us three generations of conservative gains.

They were and are utopian globalists, false coin, wooden nickels from the Bohemian grove, and adored only by the gullible or the deceitful.

‘New World Order’, my ass.

“Reagan’s biggest mistake.”

Agreed. Bush was the spoiler and poison pill back then. This time it will be Romney if the GOP nomenklatura have their way. Nothing good comes from New England.

Well, clam chowder I guess.

The dangers of DDT are highly overrated. The environmentalists backed down when they saw how many people were dying from the malaria, and DDT use has come back in recent years. The big problem with it now is that it's losing its effectiveness, as you pointed out. The most DDT resistant strains are in Asia. My understanding is that South Africa just went through a highly successful mosquito eradication program using DDT, and it is still working quite well in Africa. Malathion would be better but they can't afford it.

Those of us born in the 50's got exposed to lots of stuff as kids in the 60's. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. So far so goooooo.....

It is the faux conservatives that gave us Obama. They also gave us Reid and pelosi in 2006.

The Ron Paul pat buchannan conservatism is what is hurting us. W was an extraordinary and great American president. He had real enemies that he actually defeated.

I am smelling a new *Kennedy Clan* here — how many more relatives of the former president(s) are we going to have to hear from now?
