Simmons, Schiff say they'll primary

But Simmons, who hinted in an interview earlier this week that he wouldn't continue the battle for the nomination if he lost at the convention, announced late Friday he would carry the fight into the Aug. 10 primary.

...

But Schiff said that he would take advantage of Connecticut's open primary law and petition his way onto the Aug. 10 primary ballot nonetheless.

This is to clarify that McMahon did not win the Republican nomination, merely the GOP endorsement. The GOP endorsement provides McMahon with the top line on the ballot, but little else, provided that a primary is held.

I think I saw somewhere that Schiff said that he wouldn’t go 3rd Party.

GOP endorsement usually means RINO especially in a place like CT. Go Schiff!

c’mon Sarah, endorse Peter Schiff. I’m concern that she might endorse Mchanon or Simmons. I jumped for joy when she endorse Rand Paul. Peter Schiff is the other candidate that needs her endorsement and I would be so depressed if she doesn’t. It would illustrate that she doesn’t get it as Peter Schiff is by far the better candidate

I’d say I’d like Sarah to endorse Schiff as well. Schiff is clearly the tea party candidate, and Sarah usually endorses the tea party candidate. I don’t think Sarah needs to hurry, she can wait until polls show that Schiff has some support, which’ll appear whenever the next polls come out.

As usual, the Republican field will be made up of alleged 'moderate' candidates (all talking like conservatives but not meaning much of it) with the RNC and most local Republican leaders assuming a conservative can't win in 'deep blue' Connecticut. Perhaps not a solid, 100% conservative - but none of three possible choices I see (McMahon, Simmons and Schiff) are totally acceptable, either. What to do?

Linda McMahon has the slight advantage of being a non-politician in a season that finds career politicians in bad repute with the electorate but her background may cause her trouble. The Democrats will be be combing over the WWF records to find 'scandals' they can attach to her, undermining her candidacy. This is what they always do. McMahon's' lack of experience dealing with a local media that will be mostly hostile to her could cause trouble, too. However, Dick Blumenthal has been mortally wounded by his now-famous lies about serving in Viet Nam - and that story isn't going away. Blumenthal's arrogance and sense of entitlement could also turn just enough independent voters off to push the GOP candidate, no matter who it is, over the finish line, first.

Personally, Schiff is too libertarian for my taste, Simmons is too much of RINO and McMahon could have problems convincing Connecticut voters she is capable and deserving of being one of two Connecticut representatives in the U.S. senate, although after the long career of corrupt Chris Dodd, voters are likely weary of 'experienced' candidates. Of course, McMahon, if elected, could turn out like Scott Brown and quickly 'drift left'. I wouldn't be shocked if that happened. However, with Simmons record and the Schiff libertarianism, I'll likely vote for McMahon, should she end up the GOP candidate for senate from Connecticut. For now, she is party-endorsed but not quite there, yet. We'll see.

Schiff does have some positions that some conservatives don’t like. But in the current context that really doesn’t matter much.

Right now, it seems like Obama is trying to pass terrible legislation, and the R’s are trying to block it. Schiff would be on the side of block it. Yes, some may disagree with the marijuana issue. But is that what Obama is trying to do, legalize marijuana?

Obama is trying to push big government, and Schiff is, arguably, the strongest against big government.

Scott Brown has been disappointing, not voting for filibusters at times. I don’t see Schiff voting with the Dems on filibusters.

And McMahon has made political contributions to Rahm Emmanuel and other Democrats.

The primary is in August. We’ll see what happens then.
Schiff has the support of the tea partiers, conservatives, grass roots. Yes, CT is a liberal state, and the RINOs there think the way to go is to be 95% Democrat. McMahon and Simmons will be solid choices for RINOs, moderates, what have you. Conservatives, people who wish for limited government and a strong solid understanding of economics will be voting for Schiff. People who believe that Connecticut needs a Senator who knows how to make a lot of money from a fake sport will be going with McMahon. People who think that politics is not enough like professional wrestling will be voting for McMahon. Sure, conservatives, tea partiers already think that D’s and R’s are already just pretending to be on different sides, and they bluster and posture, but they always grow government.

Peter may be too socially libertarian (more than Rand Paul) and too far behind (worse than Chuck DeVore) for Palin to back.

Simmons I suppose would be the tepid establishment candidate, but McMahon is the big bucks, Fiorina/Whitman-style just-how-conservative-rather-than-opportunistic businesswoman is she candidate.

Hard to get too excited here other than with Blumenthal’s fall, making a win seem possible if not yet likely for either Simmons or McMahon.

Is that how others from CT see it?
