Mexico's Calderon Knows Nothing About America's Gun Laws
Fox News ^ | May 22, 2010 | John R. Lott Jr.

Posted on 05/22/2010 6:00:31 AM PDT by JohnRLott

During his trip to the United States Mexico's President Felipe Calderón received a lot of attention for falsely claiming that Arizona's new immigration law uses "racial profiling." Calderon's attacks on U.S. policies continued during his address to Congress on Thursday. Immigration wasn’t his only topic. He spent over four minutes of his address lecturing Americans and calling them on to renew the Federal Assault Weapons Ban that sunset in September 2004.

Calderon's message was simple: the reason that Mexicans are losing the drug war is because the U.S. assault weapons ban expired. Yet, Calderon's understanding of what the Federal Assault Weapons Ban is no more accurate than it is about Arizona's new immigration law. Let's review the assertions he made to Congress:

-- Calderon claimed that these were "powerful weapons." It is a common misunderstanding as the "assault weapons" ban conjures up images of machine guns used by militaries. Yet the 1994 federal assault weapons ban had nothing to do with machine guns, . . .

All Caldreone is doing is making sure we don't send back his criminals that he let go from prisons in Mexico. That is what is coming across the border in droves every day..

This one cracked me up. Here’s how it breaks down.

America manufactures a legal product that only non-criminals can purchase. Hundreds of thousands of American citizens purchase and own that product with no incident. We do our best to keep that product out of criminal hands. But the LEFTISTS who allow criminals out of jail do manage to obtain that product illegally.

Mexican citizens cross the border — AN ILLEGAL ACT.
Mexican citizens purchase that product — AN ILLEGAL ACT.
Mexican citizens carry that product back across the border — AN ILLEGAL ACT.
Mexican citizens then sell that product to others — AN ILLEGAL ACT.

Yet, somehow in the twisted brain of this tyrannical Socialist, the gun problem in Mexico is America’s fault.

Only by the twisted, fallacious, LYING logic of liberals and leftists.

...Calderón knows nothing about anything...his only reason for coming was to try and make us feel guilty...he’s got to keep the dollars flowing into Mexico or he faces revolution

Good article.

It is sad that the dems gave this liar a standing ovation. Just goes to show that they are ready and willing to disarm the peasants.

Also keep in mind that the AWB was a pre-Heller federal law and as written, probably would not pass constitutional muster post-Heller.

Calderon said, "Just to give you an idea, we have seized 75,000 guns and assault weapons in Mexico in the past three years, and more than 80 percent of those we have been able to trace came from the United States,"

Maybe he should build a fence on the US border to stop the massive flow of guns into his Country?

He knows that 90% of the weapons of criminals in Mexico come from Central and South American military and police inventories.
Instead, he uses the term “traceable” to foment his lies attributing U.S. origin.
The ONLY weapons that are “traceable” are those that have been “registered” somewhere, which isn’t true of majority of weapons used by the cartels.

Why is it our fault that his people shoot each other to death?

Why is it our fault that he cannot find work for millions of his citizens?

Why is it our fault that he resides over a medieval serfdom that diminishes the lives of millions and forces him to illegally instruct them to enter our country, so that his country can receive foreign dollars and his trespassing citizens can enjoy American health and education benefits.

Why is it that we have to pay for the education of illegals when our own citizenry are not being adequately educated?

Why is it the we have black teenage unemployment in the 30% range and yet we have to depend on illegal aliens to fill construction, gardening, restaurant, warehouse and every other unskilled labor requirement? Why does no one mention this - that two problems should be solved simultaneously?

Why is it after one hundred years, since the inception of the word “wetback” which entered the written lexicon in 1920, that hordes of unskilled, illiterate Mexicans illegally continually enter the United States, through recession and through depression, through boom and bust, generation upon generation and no one, virtually no one asks why is Mexico so wrong and America so right? What is it that America does so exceptionally well that the Mexicans cannot seem to emulate? Have they no resources like oil and gas? Have they no verdant fields upon which to grow, have they no thousands of miles of coastline, have they enough labor to accomplish anything, have they no ability to teach people, have they no law upon which to build a nation? Why is it that they continually fail, that everything they touch turns to waste? Why is it that their propagandists claim the American southwest was stolen from them and no American makes the obvious response - ‘well if you had did have it, it would only be an extension of the human destroying, poverty inducing serfdom, and thank God America had it - where else could you run to? Cuba?

"...we have seized 75,000 guns and assault weapons in Mexico in the past three years, and more than 80 percent of those we have been able to trace came from the United States..."

Yeah, well we've been able to trace more than 80% of the illegal aliens in the U.S. back to Mexico.

We call on your miserable ass to do something about that.

Calderon, is not against mexicans crossing the border, is not against mexicans buying guns and killing Americans, he is against crimnials returning home to mexico. Do we really need friends like this?

You just don’t understand anything do you? When people break existing laws the obvious solution is to pass more laws making it illegal to break the earlier laws. Then in a year or two we need to pass laws making it illegal to break the laws that made it illegal to break the first laws and so on ad infinitum. Of course we don’t actually enforce the laws and when some upstart state tries to pass its own laws making it illegal to break the existing federal laws that are not being enforced it is important to bring in a foreign head of state to help us put that renegade state back in its place. Now, how simple is that? Are you going to try to tell me that I am not being logical or something?

Well, technically - We PAID for the American Southwest twice: First when (while it was empty (with almost no population of any tribe, race, or nationality) we fought Mexico and won. Several times. This includes the California revolt, the Texas revolution against Santa Ana in 1836, and then the subsequent 1846 US war.

So, by the usual international “law” = We fought over it, We won it, We kept it, its ours.

However, even after we fought and won, the Treaty at the end of the war required US to pay for the final seon slicing across the upper Mexican border.
