Sex-obsessed culture, lack of social services blamed for human trafficking at Fort Worth forum

FORT WORTH – An increasingly sexualized consumer society and inadequate funding for social services are major reasons why more young girls are being pressed into sexual slavery, a human-trafficking expert told a Fort Worth audience Thursday.

Fishnet-clad dolls, "porn star" T-shirts, Juicy brand jeans and the mainstreaming of the word "pimp" all are signs of "demonic forces" at work in American culture, said Alesia Adams, the Salvation Army's Atlanta-based human trafficking coordinator. Adams spoke at a forum on the subject at the Salvation Army's Fort Worth offices.

"I don't want my granddaughter playing with a doll with hooker heels," she said.

Adams also criticized what she called a shortage of social services to help desperate young people who might be lured into a life of sex.

"There are more services for animals than for child victims of abuse," she said.

Texas is a hub for human sex trafficking, said Kathleen Murray, the Fort Worth Police Department's trafficking coordinator. She estimated that 20 percent of all human trafficking in the United States comes through Texas at some point.

"These cases are within our reach," she said. "That's a huge responsibility for Texas."

The State Department estimates that 300,000 children, mostly runaways, are exploited in the United States each year, Murray said.

Experts at Thursday's forum said that no reliable estimates exist for the amount of local sex trafficking.

But they said the National Human Trafficking Hotline receives more calls from Texas than from any other state, and 15 percent of those are from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

How about citing a lack of moral foundation coupled with the lack of perception of any human dignity?

ACORN has offered to help. Maybe they need to open more offices in the area./s

Or how about parenting? Parenting is horrible these days.

Remember that dance competition thing a week or two ago with 7-year olds wearing sexually-suggestive clothes performing sexually-suggestive dances? The parents signed off on that.

My guess the open border provides much of it

The same reason its a hub for drug trafficking. It’s a border state. Economy is stable. A lot of traffic goes through it. etc..

We dont even seem to care when the Mexican military helecopters goes across the border into the US. So I seriously doubt the government cares if humans cross it.

Washington won’t secure and enforce the borders. So this is leaving the door wide open for every trafficker in the world to move whatever there is a demand for into the United States.

Don't go forcing your morals on "Infants in the womb killers" aka pro choicers.

You are expecting too much from them. Any sin after that just kinda pales in comparison.

Failure to protect and DEFEND.

This IS an impeachable offense!

How about doing away with prayer, mention of Jesus, God,teaching of moral values? This is how the culture got so bad. For 30/40 years many schools have been teaching it is wrong to judge because every culture is as good as any other. I read a few years back that a Univ. prof. could not get one student to condemn the Nazis for the atrocities of WWII. They would say something like the following:

"I can't judge them because they lived in a different time and culture."

"I wasn't there, so I can't say they were doing wrong."

Does anyone notice the irony here? They can't judge Nazis, but they can judge the Founding Fathers, Christopher Columbus--any of our heroes. They can judge on slavery, but only in the US--it didn't exist anywhere else/sarc, so we are bad.

“I’ll spell it out for you. M E X I C A N S”

But Karl Rove and Jorge Arbusto said they are family people with the same values as Americans and are naturals to become Republicans.

Yeah. Its called moral relativism. And the liberal academia has took it to an extreme to a point where the line between right and wrong is not only blurred but has been erased. Nothing is “wrong” anymore.

It is a philosophy that there is no universal truth. There is no univeral normal. Everything is relative to the context of the society or culture in question.

This view of relativism is a major foundation for countless realms in academia today.

When the western hemisphere leader in human trafficking was given free reign in our country through the CAFTA, the Dominican Republic, that’s when human trafficking began to soar.

“free trade” also means “free movement of persons” and it also means free to use slave labor, and free to keep slaves.

“Or how about parenting? Parenting is horrible these days.”

And why is parenting horrible? Mostly because their parents were too busy or too self absorbed.

Some are family people. Some are very hard workers who make great neighbors.

Some are also drug traffickers, criminals, kidnappers, and so on.

Every problem can be solved with more funding and more programs. They tell me that each Sunday in the opinion pieces in my local newspaper, so it must be true.
