Obama: GOP backed down on Wall Street (O talking smack now that Scott Brown folded like wet suit)
The Hill ^ | 5/22/10 | Jordan Fabian

Republicans were forced to "back down" from blocking Wall Street reform, according to a fundraising letter sent by the president.

In the e-mail to his supporters, President Barack Obama wrote that pressure on lawmakers forced Republicans to "back down" from blocking the legislation, which the Senate passed Thursday.

"This movement proved again that the strongest special interests, who for so long have called the shots in Washington, can be beat," he wrote. "When opponents in Congress tried to block the legislation altogether, you stood up -- and they backed down. When the lobbyists pushed for loopholes and exemptions just before a final vote, you did not relent -- and we fought them off."

Heading into the midterm elections, Democrats are looking to capitalize on momentum following the passage of the bill imposing new regulations on the financial services industry.

Several Republicans helped Democrats pass the bill.

First of all, thanks for calling your teammates morons — that’s always healthy.

The main thing I wanted to comment on, though, is the haunting similarity between brocko and hugo. Two pees in a wad. I started noticing it as he went around the country promising the peasants who love him, “We can bring those fat cats down.” This numbnuts is fomenting civil war, whether he knows it or not. I suspect he does.

Were you disappointed with the Brown win in Mass? If you were, I do not recall your posts. Was there an alternative to Brown? Again, I do not recall.

Rather than excessive and unnecessary expletives and caps, how about focusing on winning. And by winning, I mean actually capturing Senate and House seats.

What was his lie? He said he would sometimes side with the dems. He is a RINO but he made no pretense othewise, and there was nobody more conservative in the race. People are wasting effort getting mad at Brown, he is what he is. Its not like a conservative lost because of him.

I somehow missed the expletives you are talking about. And no, I have no desire to win with RINOs. I’m with Demint. I’d rather see 30 conservatives who are willing to fight than a majority of RINOs who will add some window dressing to the march into Obama’s marxist hell.

This was a learning experience next time take a good look at their past. Check out what the family is about. Mrs. Brown is a news person at CBS. That sure got my attention. I can go on about their past connections unless they eagerly profess Jesus after that kind of past, I do not trust them.

Three Republicans -- Sens. Olympia Snowe (Maine), Susan Collins (Maine) and Scott Brown (Mass.) crossed the aisle to vote to break a filibuster of the bill.

The Maine twins are quickly becoming the Northeast Triplets. Brown needs to realize that if the voters in MA wanted a rubber stamp for the democrats, they would have voted for the democrat and he will be a one term-er if they can't tell the difference, after all if you are going to get a democrat either way, you might as well vote for the real thing.

Pissant, Hang in there and fight the good fight. I’m with you. I understand your point in your post. I would rather have 10 conservatives I can depend on than 30 RINOs like Lindsey Graham, John McCain and Olympia Snow. I can understand it when a democrat stabs me, he is my enemy, but when my own side does it to me it’s incomprehensible.

Pissant, denying reality as if there are only black and white choices does nothing to advance the conservative agenda. The alternative to Brown isn't some incredible awesome conservative; the alternative is Martha Coakley.

What Brown's win did, even if he is indeed a RINO (a label with less and less meaning around here, seeing how much people here hate the Republican party), is make the unthinable happen in MA--a Republican CAN become senator.

Next time around, a more conservative senator can run and possibly even win, something that wouldn't happen going from an ultra-lib cold.

There are political realities in this world. Whining and calling people names because you're angry about those realities does nothing to alter them. Electing an imperfect but preferable "RINO" where only a liberal was before is a huge step. The "morons" will continue to take the next ones rather than crying that the perfect Republican didn't miraculously assume Kennedy's seat.

Well, If the liberal Bill Weld’s, Romney’s and Browns are the best they can offer, they can keep em. I have no interest whatsoever in having the GOP help Obama pass laws that allow the federal government to track every purchase and banking transaction I do all in the name of ‘helping me’.

No, you’re not making any sense. You singled out Scott Brown in your title addendum and in your remarks. Then you ranted about “ALL YOU MORONS PUSHING “RINOS THAT CAN WIN”.” I don’t recall much discussion around here about that Senate race during the primary season. Was Martha Coakley the conservative you want all the morons to back? If not then what the hell are you talking about?

Again, you're in wishful thinking land.

The choice wasn't between Brown and some great conservative, it was between Brown and Coakley. Brown was a better choice, whether you want to acknowledge this reality or not.

Let’s be honest here. Scott Brown is no prize. He is showing his RINO colors in spades, as I knew and predicted he would. Oh, but he drives a truck! Well big effing deal! Since when did that act become a conservative qualification?

Always look beyond the hype. I needed only one visit to Brown’s website and to read his equivocations on EVERY issue. That fact alone screamed RINO POS. There were many so-called Republicans on Face Book that were pushing Brown ad nausea... However, I knew better. I would not give that RINO ass clown two cents.

I can not stress the point strongly enough: Politically speaking, nothing good ever comes out of Massachusetts. NOTHING.

The state is a hopeless cesspool of political hacks, cultural reprobates and hard-core Marxists. Moreover, the MA-GOP is a caricature, a standing joke, and more of a political token than anything worth national interest. The terms “lost cause” or “ball and chain” best describe the party and the piece of geography they claim as their own.

Right. So next time you can just vote for Coakley and put a reliable Democrat in the Senate.

The problems is not squishy Republicans - they always will be around. The problems is Congressional leadership not willing to hold members’ feet to the fire. Look at Democratic minorities of the early Bush administration and how they forced members to hang together. What Republicans need are Party leaders who can and will act like Democrats in holding together Party unity.

Silly. If I told you ANY Republican would take over the seat Kennedy once held, you'd have made a similar one, right?

I mean, that's as crazy as saying Ronald Reagan could take Massachusetts--you could have sold me a bridge in Chappaquiddick before THAT happened, too, right?

What’s better, a RINO or a liberal? I wish I knew. I prefer a clear choice between conservatism and liberalism, but as Darkwolf377 wrote, that choice isn’t always available. I can’t see myself voting for the liberal under any circumstance, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to vote for the RINO.

We can’t count on RINOs, and it’s historically difficult to beat incumbents. Plus, they help give the Democrats “bipartisanship” cover. On the other hand, we know exactly where we stand with liberals. It may be easier for a conservative to beat a hard left liberal than a RINO incumbent.

It's definitely a troublesome choice, but I'd always vote for a RINO over a liberal, because in order to even BE a RINO you're going to contribute to the majority in a congress, which means power to that party. As disgusted as I am with the Republican party (which seems to want to return to its pre-Reagan, Country Club/Rockefeller days), at least a RINO's gonna vote SOMEtimes in the protection of my interests. Whereas a liberal is a liberal.
