Obama, Corker clash in private meeting

It was billed as a high-noon cease-fire between President Barack Obama and Senate Republicans, but the rare, private Capitol Hill meeting instead turned into a heated shootout at the notion that anyone in the room has bipartisan intentions this election year.

When Obama appealed for bipartisanship on legislation in the six months remaining before Election Day, freshman Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., confronted him, the senator later told reporters.

"I told him I thought there was a degree of audacity in him even showing up today after what happened with financial regulation," Corker said after the meeting. "I asked him how he was able to reconcile that duplicity, coming in today to see us."

Four people who were in the room said Obama bristled and defended his administration's handling of negotiations. Republicans have long complained that Democrats are using heavy-handed tactics to push though Obama's agenda.

On the way out, Obama approached Corker, according to the senator, who had been sitting just to the president's right, to press his case. Corker repeated his...

According to the Tennessee Republican and others in the room, that eruption started when Obama pledged to meet Republicans halfway on several issues. People spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was private.

The Tennessee Republican spent weeks in February and March in almost daily negotiations with Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd, D-Conn., in an attempt to reach a bipartisan bill. Corker angered Republicans by taking the lead in the talks.

While Corker succeeded in winning some adjustments in the bill, Dodd eventually cut their talks short...

Corker told reporters, "I just wanted him to tell me how when he wakes up in the morning, comes over to luncheon like ours today, how does he reconcile that duplicity?"

He should have demanded to know what made the cretin think he was a Natural Born Citizen with a British father and arrested the Muther F***** for treason.

What is amazing to me is how Hussein thinks this “let me have a meeting with them” crap is going to “TRICK” anyone.

He is NOT interested in what the American people want—that was proven with the health care debacle.

So WHY would he be interested in what the Republicans want? Gimme a break, Hussein...

Hussein is interested in what Hussein wants. EVERYTHING else is window dressing. His visit to the Gulf during his vacation, his meeting with ball teams, his musical tributes to all genres of the art, his glad handing of visitors. EVERYTHING.

He is the VERY definition of Fraud.

I’ve seen what Corker worked out with Dodd. Corker has won my grudging respect in this. I did not like the man, but voted for him over Ford. The bill he and Dodd originally were working on took out all of what the Dims wanted. It actually looked to have less government intrusion. Of course, that did not go over well.

It’s all he knows. It’s part of his training as a “Community Organizer”. He knows very little outside that realm.

Think about it, he was a Senator, for what, six weeks before he started campaigning?

Republicans should not compromise one iota on anything.

This occupant in the White House is bent on destroying this country as we have known it, and anyone who meets him halfway is going halfway towards destroying the country and should be treated as such.

This is bringing to mind Reagan and his opinion on Thanksgiving turkeys in relation to detente.

Corker angered Republicans by taking the lead in the talks.

If the Republicans can't all get on the same page and present a united front then how can they expect to derail Obama's agenda? This is how he's winning. By peeling off a Republican here and a Republican there.

Obama lies. That’s all he and his cohorts do. They’re good at it but it’s wearing thin.

My first thought was that zero wanted to let McCain appear to act tough, to aid McCain’s reelection chances. He would want McCain over JD.
