Louisiana's Jindal: Where's Obama?
IBD Editorials ^ | May 25, 2010 | Investors Business Daily staff

Emergencies: As frustration with the federal response grows, Louisiana's governor lashes out at the feds for doing little except blame BP for the Gulf oil spill. Meanwhile, Congress sees a chance to raise your gas taxes.

While the Obama administration continues on its quest to fundamentally transform America, the largely unabated Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico threatens to fundamentally transform the ecosystems and economy of Louisiana and the Gulf region.

The federal government's response so far has consisted largely of scapegoating BP and ignoring its own responsibilities and lack of preparation, railing against Big Oil, while Congress makes plans to quadruple the federal gasoline tax, ostensibly to finance cleanups.

Never let a good crisis go to waste when there's a chance to make big government bigger.

"We've been frustrated with the disjointed effort to date that has too often meant too little, too late for the oil hitting our coast," Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said on Day 36 of the spill.

As of Tuesday morning, he was still waiting for the federal government to provide millions of feet in booms and to approve an emergency permit for a state plan to dredge and build new barrier islands to keep the oil from reaching the marshes and wetlands.

Jindal, who is so desperate for the islands that he says he'll build them himself even if it means going to jail, states: "We need more booms, more skimmers, more vacuums, more jack-up barges that are still in short supply. Let's be clear: Every day that this oil sits is one more day that more of our marsh dies."

Obama-Speak was hoping this would end the debate on offshore drilling. Instead it proved the point of his total incompetence.

Better question: Hey. Bobby Brady. Where were YOU?? It is your frackin’ state. It's your frackin’ coastline. It's your frackin’ problem before it is Obama’s.

Obama and his administration is incompetent and bumbling.

This crisis and disaster shows that in spades.

They are handling this disaster worse than even Bush handled Katrina.

This shows that the federal government under Obama is completely incompetent, out of control and ineffectual.

And that sentiment is not confined to only domestic issues but foreign affairs as well.

The entire Obama administration is much more of a disaster than even Jimmy Carter’s and that my friends says a lot right there.

Bobby needs to go ahead and do what he needs to do. Besides, it’s always easier to apologize than to ask permission.

Why should Obama do anything? It’s all Bush’s fault anyway. I mean, what could he do??

Louisiana's Jindal: Where's Obama?

Preparing for his monthly vacation. Apparently destroying the American economy is very tiring. ;-)

In fact, conservatives have been coming out and stepping forward to criticize Obummer and his admin about this affair.

It is a misnomer that conservatives do not care about the environment. They do. Very much.

They just want a coomon sense approach to environmentalism that does not destroy the business climate and the national economy to do it. Conservatives prefer a much more balanced approach. Environmentalists should get that through their thick skulls.

I think the US (if not much of the world) has developed this big blind spot. In over a decade we’ve had one preventable disaster after another, and I think in every case it’s an excellent example of the federal government being asleep at the switch, and it’s certainly not because of the lack of new legislation or a large enough bureaucracy. It’s a lack of transparency and oversight from the presidency, the congressional leadership (including the minority), the courts, and the washington establishment on down to the voters at the bottom of these pyramids. I suppose a time could be coming when everyone is going to get a little more curious and when that happens, they’re not going to like what they see. I can hope, anyway.

Sorry, after his golfing game he is going on his 100th vacation, at the tax payers expense, to service his masters in Chicago. I hope he does not forget his knee pads and the box of tissues.

This is a federal issue per the Oil Pollution Act. This is zer0’s legal responsibility to act.

The federal government's response so far has consisted largely of scapegoating BP and ignoring its own responsibilities and lack of preparation, railing against Big Oil, while Congress makes plans to quadruple the federal gasoline tax, ostensibly to finance cleanups.

In contrast to Katrina where the local and state governments self destructed as a result of their own stupidity and mismanagement, Louisiana today really needs decisive, tangible, and timely Federal government support that is not there.

Federal support via the US Coast Guard was there for Katrina even during the storm, to save thousands of lives. Other Federal support arrived in due time to help and continues to help. But the blame Bush crowd is milking the non lack of Federal response as though no one, and zero dollars showed up. They are living in the past.

Today we have a clear and immediate genuine need for Federal support that is not there. Instead we have style over substance from this administration. IMO the style is not that great given the obvious incompetence of the "leaders" in charge.
