There's a hole in the bottom of the ocean. Unemployment is still near 10 percent. There are two wars underway. And what are conservative pundits fretting about? That this year President Obama won't be laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day.
The liberal watchdog outfit, Media Matters, has been keeping track of this latest right-wing meme:
- Glenn Beck says, "Obama is skipping out on a Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington Cemetery because he'll be in Chicago on vacation. I'm sorry, I don't ever, ever question the president's vacation. I didn't under Bush, I didn't under Clinton, I don't under Obama. . . . I have no problem with the man taking a vacation. But I am sick and tired -- sick and tired -- of people believing the lie that this administration has respect for the police or has respect for the soldiers of our country. I'm tired of it."
- Erick Erickson, a conservative blogger and CNN contributor, tweeted, "Obama skipping the Tomb of the Unknowns this weekend for Chicago is offensive. Chicago can wait. The Commander-in-Chief has a job to do."
- Noting that Vice President Joe Biden will assume the wreath-laying duties this year, Doug Powers, a guest blogger for conservative Michelle Malkin, grouses, "President Obama went to Arlington Cemetery to lay the wreath last year, but this year Obama's handing the wreath to [Biden] and heading off to the more welcoming political climes of Chicago. . . . Obama will however make it back to Washington in time to honor Paul McCartney next week. Boy, I'm starting to think that West Point speech [Obama gave this past weekend] wasn't from the heart."

This statement made me want to puke! This is what happens when you make beating the $hit out of people illegal! Could any of you imaging this POS making a statement like this during WW2 and then him being able to actually chew food?
A quick google search did not help and I need to log off. I know that President Bush visited Walter Reed and other hospitals on a regular basis. But this author has bee caught in one lie (Cheney 2007). If he is again lying here we need to call him on it.

We should be haaaappy that Obama's not going to the Arlington National Cemetery.
We should be happy that he's not going to the breakfast for the Goldstar Families who've lost loved ones in a military conflict.
We should be glad that he's not a militarist.
We should all be happy that he's downplaying the military.
Because we don't really need a military.
What we need are... well, not the military exactly. We certainly don't need guns.
We need something along the lines of, ummm, men who march with wooden guns. And sort of wooden tanks.
And the ships are being used properly: I'm glad that they're not firing a shot.
It's very good that we haven't fired one shot at Iran or at North Korea.
It's better that they are used basically as social service agencies with propellers.
It's good to take children from the inner cities and give them a uniform and shoes and let them become pregnant on the ship.
Because that's what the feminists want. That's what they expect out of the military.
The military is not meant for defending America. The military is meant to get the children off the streets so they can just have sex on the ships, get pregnant, and then raise a child on the taxpayers' dime.You don't want to know any of that because no one tells you that.
It's the best kept secret in the U.S. Navy.
It's why not a shot is fired anymore.
It's why we have to call in the Spanish or the Portuguese navy to take on the pirates because our navy has become useless.

I’m a retired Senior Chief’s wife, daughter to a WW2 deceased Vet. Step daughter to another WW2 (Bronze Star holder) put the Flag back up under sniper fire when MacArthur retook Corregidor, deceased Vet. And my late husband was a Vietnam Era USAF Vet. Whose uncle was part of the original Merrill’s Mauraders.
They are all Heroes to me because at a moment’s notice they put their lives on the line for us.

I don’t disagree and I apologize if my post to you was attacking in any way. I just hate to distract from the true meaning of Memorial Day. Yes, all active and former military members, as well as their family members make sacrifices that are not even imaginable to those that have not served, but I hate to distract from those that have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Thus letting us know (if we didn't already) how important it is to David Corn. No wonder he doesn't care.
I have been upset about this article since yesterday. Not only is the tone disgusting, especially the part about leaves thrown on a tomb....but the outright lie about Cheney stepping on for Bush!!! Millions of people read this sh!t!!!
Yesterday some idiot had the nerve to argue about GWB doing a speech on Memorial Day over the radio...I thought I would become unglued....I told her he did it by radio because he was in Normandy!!!! I asked her if she had ever heard of that place......you know where over 9,000 American Soldiers are buried....she did apologize but jeez....the ignorance and lack of fact checking is really getting to me......gosh, I find I am angry all the time and I cannot tolerate some people because of they’re so damned gullible!!!
