What I don't understand is how Coastie officers will serve in the USN and not the USCG.

Nor do I. Like I said my understanding was that any branch of active duty military was eligible to attend BUD/S. I know Marines have been on SEAL teams in the past.

And while I've not heard of any Air Force or Army personnel in the Teams I was under the impression that it was possible for them to do so.

Am I incorrect in that?

My time is way long past, so I’m not one to ask. In my time in the 80s officers only from other services went through BUD/S now and then, but then back to their services, where they served in SCUBA/frogman billets in recon, SF etc.
I didn’t know of any who served ON SEAL Teams AS SEALs.

There were exchage program (PEP) officers and NCOs assigned to STs, but they were assigned HQ billets adn were not in operational platoons. They were observers, basically, gleaning what they could to take home to SBS, SAS, Kampfschwimmer Kompanie or whatever. And we had an officer and NCO at their units as part of the exchange.

Thanks for clearing it up for me. Like I said I knew Marines could join what with being a Department of the Navy and all but I wasn't sure about other branches.

It'd be interesting to find out how they chop these Coasties back and forth. But anyway more power to them.

I never heard of any Marines serving in STs. Never. Marines are quite content at Batt and Force Recon.

The most *diverse* school I went to was my Military Police Officer Advanced course in '95. We had two Hungarians, two Saudis, one from Taiwan, a Nepalese Ghurka and an Australian.

Oh...and two Marines, lol.

The Coast Guardsman who completed BUDS will have to complete SQT or SEAL Qualification Training which can last up to a year. That includes SDV, Airborne, and many other types of training. They also have complete a Junior Officers course for SEAL Officers. They will be assigned to an operational platoon and will do a platoon workup after which they will deploy. They will be given the option of remaining Navy SEALs or returning to the CG. If they choose to remain in the SEALs they will have to transfer the USN. Marines are not on SEAL Teams. Marines do not go through BUDS nor do any other service branch members. A Marine may leave the Marines and enlist in the Navy. He can then attempt BUDS training. Foreign officers have gone through BUDS in the past and still do. How do I know all this? I am a former SEAL (SEAL TEAM ONE 70-73) and maintain contact with those in the know.
