Palin neighbor sought author as tenant
Politico ^ | May 27, 2010 | Ben Smith

Sarah Palin's next-door neighbor sought out author Joe McGinniss as a tenant, McGinniss's son said.

"No one is stalking anyone," Joe McGinniss, Jr., a novelist whose father is the non-fiction writer, wrote in response to an email from a Palin supporter who confused his email address and his father's. (He shared the email with me.) "A woman was renting her house and sought out the author because the Palins had crossed her (owed her money for renovations she had done at their request and never paid her for). So she knew McGinniss was writing the book and found him and offered him the house."

The neighbor "turned down more lucrative offers from the National Enquirer who wanted the house so they could 'stalk' and take pictures, etc... She said no," he wrote.

McGinniss, Jr. wrote that Palin is "inspiring a lot of hate in people, appealing to so many of people's worst instincts. Sad and scary." And he defended his father's decision to rent the house:

“A woman was renting her house and sought out the author because the Palins had crossed her (owed her money for renovations she had done at their request and never paid her for).”

They gotta do better than this. So Todd Palin hires some woman who owns a house next door to do some work and decides to stiff her. She then goes out and hunts down this reprobate from somewhere down in the lower 48 to rent her house, that’ll show’em.

C’mon, Tood’s not the nancy-boy inhabiting the WH, he can probably hang his own drapes. This doesn’t even make any sense.

This is easy to figure out:

As easy as looking for permits; then asking contractors if they were paid. No permits= no improvement.

Gee, I thought everybody was above average.

Well, if you read posts other than mine that opinion will change, believe me. But that has nothing to do with the Palin neighborhood's "at least one pig" happens to own a house directly next door (15') to the Palins rather than a quarter mile away, or down the street, even..

Post no.60 states that they rented the house last year, and tried to rent it again this year but were unable to contact the owner.

Looks to me like the Palins were being set up by this owner whose obviously being used by Democrat stalkers.

What a WEIRDO -- who'd want to read ANYTHING by such a pervert that they didn't even realize how INAPPROPRIATE it is to STALK a family????

Random House should be totally ashamed.

Does seem reasonable to me, actually. I wouldn’t want to drag my ass down to small claims court if I felt someone owed me money and I was pissed off at them about it. It was probably effortless for them to pick someone to rent the house to. The neighbor said they had many potential renters, and they turned down the nat’l Enquirer.

Well, sure, if the allegations are untrue. What’s Sarah’s side of the story regarding the neighbor story.

I do not believe that for a second. I’d be willing to bet that the renting was done under wraps so no one would know until after he moved in. It can be done by an attorney and rented under a corporation.

Who owns the house? Who rented it from who before?
All I know is “Palin” “neighbor” and “McGinness” Why is “neighbor” making renovations at Palins request? Is neighbor renting from Palin? And neighbor is subletting out to McGinness? Confusing and interesting.

This might’ve been covered by the Glenn Beck interview. I did hear the “tried to contact” part. I didn’t hear wanted to buy, specifically.

The neighbor owns the house. The Palins rented it last year but were unable for some reason to make arrangements this year.

Presumably because McGinness had already done so.

Is this the same son who implied his father has a bad crush on Sarah?

The only good news for Joe is that Todd wouldn’t hit a 70 year old senile guy who hasn’t been able to get anything published in years.

If the Palins were attempting to contact the owner (who had made herself unavailable) to rent the house clearly Joe Jrs story is a total fabrication. Doesn’t sound like the Palins owed the owner a dime.

Anyway you look at it this is one wacky story that’s impossible to believe. Joe jr and/or the owner are lying through their teeth.

"No one is stalking anyone," Joe McGinniss, Jr., a novelist whose father is the non-fiction writer... The neighbor "turned down more lucrative offers from the National Enquirer who wanted the house so they could 'stalk' and take pictures, etc... She said no," he wrote.

Joe Jr. explains that the neighbor basically chose one stalker over another and then says no one is stalking anyone! And even claims righteousness because they turned down more money from other stalkers! These people lie so much I think there is a better than even chance that they did indeed sell to the highest bidding stalker.

About a day ago I was looking around trying to find info on this matter that wasn’t linked here. Don’t try that. There are some seriously deranged people who think that Sarah is evil and wrong for wanting to stop a journalist from covering a story in whatever way he sees fit. And we’re pretty harsh on McGinness. They were even more nasty to Sarah.

They are reading these comments (not necessarily FR, but whereever pro Sarah comments are found) and they seem to object to the word “stalker” being used.

I’m not sure I like it myself. It might be the perfect word, or not.

What I do think is undeniably true is that McGinness is moving up to Alaska from Massachusetts for one reason, to put himself in the best position he possibly can to invade Sarah Palins privacy. Palin may be a public figure to whom untold indignities can be visited upon. She may have no legal right to privacy at all. Who knows? But what we do know is that McGinness has intentionally gone through great expense to put himself at the exact best spot for him to be able to invade their privacy.

I don’t know if “stalking” is the right word. He has uprooted his life in Massachusetts in order to intentionally invade Sarah Palin’s privacy.
