Sarah Palin's next-door neighbor sought out author Joe McGinniss as a tenant, McGinniss's son said.
"No one is stalking anyone," Joe McGinniss, Jr., a novelist whose father is the non-fiction writer, wrote in response to an email from a Palin supporter who confused his email address and his father's. (He shared the email with me.) "A woman was renting her house and sought out the author because the Palins had crossed her (owed her money for renovations she had done at their request and never paid her for). So she knew McGinniss was writing the book and found him and offered him the house."
The neighbor "turned down more lucrative offers from the National Enquirer who wanted the house so they could 'stalk' and take pictures, etc... She said no," he wrote.
McGinniss, Jr. wrote that Palin is "inspiring a lot of hate in people, appealing to so many of people's worst instincts. Sad and scary." And he defended his father's decision to rent the house:

Wow! They manage to exonerate the loony stalker AND bash the Palins all in one swoop.
Sarah should make an offer on the house.
An interesting development, would want to hear Palins side on that one.
Hold on -- you're owed money for renovations, they didn't pay you so you seek out an author of an upcoming book? You don't take them to small claims court to get your dough, at the very least make their stiffing you public notice??
I ain't buying this one at all.
She doesn't inspire hate. The hate comes from within people like you (Mr McGinniss, Jr).
I think the onslaught against Sarah Palin is satanic — in every sense of the word.
Driven by their fear of her, it’s astonishing the lengths to which the forces of darkness will go.
The good news is, she has Someone even more powerful on her side.
She’s a strong person with principles and an unashamed love of God and she *will* prevail.
The creepy stalker Joe McGinnis has a son who’s as creepy as he is?
Weirder and weirder it gets...
I think the Palins need to move to a larger piece of property with more privacy. This is just the price of celebrity in our tabloid-loving society, particularly if your conservative.
And they may want to consider suing this idiot neighbor for slander and deformation regarding these public allegations of financial impropriety.
I am thinking, she was actually thinking.. mmm... gonna make some money. But, if that were the case, wouldn't Palin have been offered an opportunity to buy it, thats the best way to cash in. But, the Palins are not saying this.. that their neighbor was the villain.
If this was a petty dispute over renovations.. how does that make sense.. when they rented it last year, did they actually use it?
We will see more stories on this I am sure.

I fail to see how having a creepy neighbor go out LOOKING for a stalker to move into the house exonerates the stalker. It just means there’s a creepy neighbor involved.
lol ... nor do I
It’s not the seeking that was the problem it’s the stalking. So Palin’s neighbor is the real stalker? Or just tring to get some undeserved money.
Sarah was on Glen Beck a couple days ago. She stated that she had been trying to contact the property owner for months to do just that.
I agree, this neighbor just stepped in it big time by owning this deal.
I see the son is every bit as retarded as his pappy is.
Her Junior, hows about if a group of anti-lefties took residence 15 feet from YOUR house, with binoculars trained on you 24 hours a day, and ogle your little girls as they play about in the backyard? Let's just try that shall we?
And hence we can see that McGinniss Sr. will be starting his book from a completely unbiased and fact based point of view.
This is easy to figure out: The woman's home was an unsightly dump and the Palins asked her to at least clean the place up. Now the woman wants the Palins to pay for it. this crap happens in neighborhoods from coast to coast (and obviously in Alaska as well). Every neighborhood has at least one pig.
“And they may want to consider suing this idiot neighbor for slander and deformation regarding these public allegations of financial impropriety.”
Agreed..and maybe for defamation as well! :)
