Russia today said it will go ahead with plans to hold naval exercises near North Korea in June despite rising tensions between the two Koreas.

The exercises were planned before a report of international investigators last week found North Korea responsible for the March sinking of a South Korean warship, in which 46 sailors died.

Russia maintains ties with North Korea.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Igor Lyakin-Frolov today said that Moscow needs "100 percent proof" that North Korea sank the ship.

Russia plans big naval exercise off North Korea - May 27, 2010 - A flotilla of warships will set off for the Sea of Japan from Vladivostok, the home port of Russia's Pacific fleet, its spokesman Roman Martov said. Vladivostok is in the Primorsky Krai, the only Russian region that borders North Korea.

For the first time, other fleets of Russia's navy will also join in the war games.

The Black Sea fleet's flagship Moskva missile cruiser, dubbed "the aircraft carrier killer" in the Russian media, will take part alongside the heavy nuclear-powered cruiser Peter the Great, flagship of the Northern fleet.

The question is this: How long has Russia known that North Korea sunk the warship?

Translated literally, I think the Russian statement was, "Screw you, we don't give a crap."

flo·til·la   /floʊˈtɪlə/ Show Spelled[floh-til-uh] Show IPA
–noun
1.a group of small naval vessels, esp. a naval unit containing two or more squadrons.

squad·ron   /ˈskwɒdrən/ Show Spelled[skwod-ruhn] Show IPA –noun
1.a portion of a naval fleet or a detachment of warships; a subdivision of a fleet.

Right. The Russian's are going to deploy a portion of their "fleet" to Korea - from three different home ports. They better bring a lot of ocean going tugs.

The Black Sea fleet's flagship Moskva missile cruiser, dubbed "the aircraft carrier killer" in the Russian media, will take part alongside the heavy nuclear-powered cruiser Peter the Great, flagship of the Northern fleet.

This is absolutely pure parody. Did the Onion write this?

Regards,

TS

South Korea should respond with a one word response "Tsushima". 9I know it was a Japanese victory, but if the Russian's consider the Moskva a threat, they'll believ anything. It's sister ship was damaged by a Styx missile. A barrage of Harpoons will do much worse.
