Someone must have asked “if she is a direct descendant, what’s an indirect descendant?” Actually, direct descendant is a redundant term, because one is only descended from one’s parents, their parents, etc. Either someone is descended from someone or they are not. You and your ninth cousins are all direct descendants of a common ancestor 11 generations back. I guess it just sounds more impressive to be a direct descendant. Sort of like being in close proximity, another redundant phrase we hear often.
I have occasionally heard the term direct descendant applied to mean directly down the male line, father to son to son to son. Under that interpretation, a male direct descendant of Roger Williams would have the surname Williams,and share the same Y chromosome DNA. An “indirect” descendant of Roger Williams could loop back and forth through maternal or paternal lines. But that seems to me a confusing way to use the terms.

I had a 93 year old aunt with money, she married her neighbors 19 year old boy. She went blind after the first year and the kid kept moving the furniture around. The old lady finally tripped over a foot stool and the fall killed her. The kid got everything.

It is one of the great mysteries of existence.
The closest anyone has come to anything resembling ‘understanding’ women is this statement, “Hey.. they’re different.”
