Illegal immigrants Gravitate Toward Arizona Border
By Peter Slevin May 29, 2010 NOGALES, ARIZ. -- Along a rugged stretch of the Mexican border here in southern Arizona, U.S. authorities captured 687 illegal immigrants in a 24-hour period last week, three times the number captured near San Diego. During the past eight months, agents have apprehended 168,000 migrants along this sector of the border.
The border crossers are so determined, and so impervious to a long-running buildup of federal agents and technology, that few here think President Obama's recent decision to dispatch 1,200 National Guard soldiers and $500 million will make much difference.
"I doubt it, frankly," said Don Severe, a vocal opponent of illegal immigration who favors stronger measures, including certain incarceration. "It sounds good, but what are they going to do? We have a very serious problem."
Arizona, home of a controversial new law that makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally, has become the leakiest portion of the nearly 2,000-mile border. The continuing flow of illegal immigrants, compounded by a rise in narcotics traffic and the slaying of an Arizona rancher, perhaps by a border crosser, has triggered a fresh fight over immigration policy, animating activities on both sides of the debate.

Another math problem. 1969 miles of border. 1200 NG troops. Oops! Ain't working.
Oops - what he did do is BLAME THE U.S. for the gun violence in Mexico. Yes, It's America’s FAULT and you are a RACIST if you object to ILLEGALS invading our country and sucking us dry financially.
The way the Mexicans look at it is if you throw enough of them at the border, some are bound to get through. They need to make it so dangerous to even try that they will back off some.
The Article states:
“On a typical day, nearly 1 million people cross from Mexico into the United States, according to U.S. government figures. Roughly 270,000 vehicles cross the Southwest border every 24 hours, along with about 57,000 truck, rail and sea containers. Sixty percent of the Mexican fruit and vegetables entering the United States comes through Nogales.”
Obama’s recent decision to dispatch 1,200 National Guard soldiers and $500 million will make much difference.
Not even allowed to be armed or arrest illegal aliens...
That’s what I was thinking. 12 million+ in California alone. Probably more like 50 million+ illegals in the country. That number may be way high and I have no way of knowing, but my common sense tells me it’s no where near 12 million.
Stop the flow of goodies to them. If the jobs and goodies weren’t given to them on a silver platter, they would self deport.
You hit it on the head. Entitlements and open borders don’t mix too well.

Border agents have “close to daily” encounters with smugglers carrying guns, most linked to drug smuggling, he said. In announcing the National Guard deployment, which echoes earlier approaches, Obama emphasized the need to slow the drugs flowing north, as well as guns and cash heading south to the cartels waging war on Mexican state authority.
(Yes, just SLOW the drug traffic. Let’s not make ANY attempt to STOP it. Of course AMERICAN GUNS are the problem concerning DRUG WARS IN MEXICO! LOL! It’s always America’s fault and anything GOOD for America can NOT HAPPEN under Obama.)
...
So far, 210 miles of the 262-mile Tucson Sector border is fenced. McCain, facing GOP primary challenger J.D. Hayworth, a border hawk, made waves by declaring in a campaign advertisement filmed in Nogales: “Complete the danged fence.”
(Yes, Sarah Palin endorsed McPain isn’t doing the job. I hope J.D. Hayworth WINS. We don’t need more RINO’s - even if Sarah Palin campaigns and endorses RINO’s.)
Put a few landmines out there and they’ll stop coming here.
...
Of course not!
It's best from Obama’s perspective for Americans to be UNARMED and defenseless. He wants to believe that criminals will respect that. LOL! Obama wants the vote of ILLEGALS and Mexicans.
Open fire
Could the state of Arizona build a workable wall across its own border?
The article doesn’t say 1 million illegals crossing the border on a typical day. Read the article.
Also, I thought the 1,200 National Guard troops are all being sent to Texas. (That’s a typical Obama decision - Arizona reports a severe problem and Obama sends troops to Texas. What, he threw a dart at a map on the wall?)
Yes. In the military, we called it “interlocking fire”.
Sounds a bit weird. 360 million mexicans a year; I don't think there are that many mexicans around.
Mexico’s total population in 2010 is a little over 111 million:

Also 20,000 BP agents. 1200 more is a drop in the bucket.
All we heard after the Calderon/obama fiasco last week is that illegal movement across the border is DOWN. I want to know where they get their numbers from. Is there a kiosk set up some place for them to all check in? Failing to find them and pick them up doesn’t mean they aren’t still crossing and getting through into our cities! It’s like crime is down in our cities, because culprits aren’t caught.
Just as with WMD’s - just because you don’t find them, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Nicole Brown Simpson wasn’t really murdered either because the murder weapon wasn’t found.
Do we all have to adopt illogical thinking to get along in this world?
