Krauthammer: Oil Spill Culprits Run Deep
Orange County Register via BigGovernment.com ^ | 5/29/2010 | Charles Krauthammer

WASHINGTON Here's my question: Why are we drilling in 5,000 feet of water in the first place?

Many reasons, but this one goes unmentioned: Environmental chic has driven us out there. As production from the shallower Gulf of Mexico wells declines, we go deep (1,000 feet and more) and ultra deep (5,000 feet and more), in part because environmentalists have succeeded in rendering the Pacific and nearly all the Atlantic coast off-limits to oil production. (President Obama's tentative, selective opening of some Atlantic and offshore Alaska sites is now dead.) And of course, in the safest of all places, on land, we've had a 30-year ban on drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

So we go deep, ultra deep – to such a technological frontier that no precedent exists for the April 20 blowout in the Gulf of Mexico.

There will always be catastrophic oil spills. You make them as rare as humanly possible, but where would you rather have one: in the Gulf of Mexico, upon which thousands depend for their livelihood, or in the Arctic, where there are practically no people? All spills seriously damage wildlife. That's a given. But why have we pushed the drilling from the barren to the populated, from the remote wilderness to a center of fishing, shipping, tourism and recreation?

KEYWORDS:
I've heard industry experts state that if this blow-out had occurred on land, it would have been capped within 24 hours.

Instead, we drill 100 miles off the coast, one mile to the sea bed and another 5 miles beneath the ocean floor.

This is crazy.

This blowout didn’t happen on its own. The Obama Administration sent secret deep sea robot devices down there and set off explosives.

They did this just so they could stop all oil drilling and exploration to please the environmentalists.

(Well, the “Truthers” believe that Bush Administration was responsible for 9/11 just so they could start a war in Iraq).

(And the Katrinies blamed the Bush Admin for blowing up the levees in N.O. because they want to kill black people.)

Psst - don’t tell anyone that you know the truth about the blowout.

IMHO, Krauthammer is right. The left is always quick to point their crooked little fingers when something goes wrong so they will not be exposed as being the real culprits.

The good side is that we are learning a heck of a lot about deep water drilling. But, no, the Gulf is where the oil is. Contrary to what the green people think, we have to have it.

Yah, but they want it all for themselves. Look at the locations and modes of transport to "green" conferences (why can't they all stay home and dial in?) -- not to mention the conspicuous consumption of such folks as Algore?

Which of course is complete nonsense. We all know that it was Karl Rove's insidious weather control machine.

I saw this the other day. Money line:

When you get a blowout 15 months into your administration, and your own Interior Department had given BP a "categorical" environmental exemption in April 2009, the buck stops.

He also said that, even though he sacked all the corrupt Bush cronies, the culture didn’t change. Ergo, Bush’s fault.

Oh, sorry. Wrong article. But, Obama did say something like that yesterday as well. Hence, my confusion.

You make them as rare as humanly possible

That's where the current administration AND the last administration failed. We did not have all safeguards in place to make sure this was "as rare as humanly possible".

I had to read your post three times!

It is too weird an idea, yet too accurate in it’s impact!

Thanks for a thought for the night!

If I were president and wanted to destroy the US...

Here's how I'd do it....I'D BANKRUPT IT!!!!(in the name of saving it)

no messy fights or bloodshed...no coups...just spend and spend...when it got so bad that “We the People” realize that the Country may be destroyed via the spending ...
I'd need 1 huge catastrophe that all of the people would fall in line to finish the job...
(a nuclear disaster or a huge oil spill would be ideal...by letting it get worse and worse....I could wait till “We the People” demand it be stopped....Then...I could spend the country into bankruptcy with the full support of “WE THE PEOPLE” If could never happen here though...way too simple!

They want the upside of the industrial revolution without the down-side of the industrial revolution.
