Bret Michaels -- From Deathbed to 'American Idol' Judge? (Talks on to replace Simon Cowell)
TMZ ^ | 05/30/2010

Posted on 05/30/2010 8:15:37 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Bret Michaels returned to the stage last night in Biloxi, MS where Bret dropped a huge piece of info on the crowd -- he might be taking Simon Cowell's seat on "American Idol."

Right before Bret played the classic "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," he told the crowd, "I can't say this is true yet, cause I don't know. Next year they asked me to possibly be the judge on 'American Idol.'" Very vague, but still ...

As for the rest of the show, one audience member told us, "I figured he'd be wobbly and sitting on a stool. But he was energetic, running around the stage with his guitar. It was like when I saw Poison years ago. It was a awesome show."

UPDATE: A source close to Bret tells TMZ Bret is "in the running to replace Simon" but that nothing is close to being done yet. A rep for FOX says they are not commenting on any speculation regarding Simon's replacement. Stay tuned ...commenting on any speculation regarding Simon's replacement. Stay tuned ...

Bret has earned my respect.
He's a highly talented and creative guy and would be a great replacement for Simon.

The only reason I’ve heard of him is because I happened to flip over to Trump’s Apprentice one night. He’s some old rocker who won Apprentice and recently had a brain hemorrhage. If he’s that ill, I wouldn’t want to invest untold dollars in him.

Basic problem type 1 diabetes. In and out of hospital. Multiple injections per day. IMO he's too nice and wishy washy to replace Simon.

They need some one with bite. Piers is good but he has a British show and America's Got Talent. Need someone not afraid to tell the bad singers they're bad.

I have heard nothing but good things about him. He is a real nice guy and does not have that “I am a star, therefore I am great” attitude.

I hope he is cleared by his doctors for this. IMO he needs to take it easy for awhile.....still, I wish him the best.....

Bret gained a lot of fans from his stint on Celebrity Apprentice. He is very hyper, all over the place, probably has ADD but it works for him. His working style seemed unfocused at first and annoyed the other contestants until they realized that this is how Bret creates and that he is very hard working and results orientated.

The only thing I can see that might be a negative is that I can’t see him sitting still long enough to get through the show! Look at him now, all over the place just after major medical problems. However, I don’t think any of his illnesses had anything to do with him being busy and for Bret the best medicine appears to be getting back to work.

I just want him to go home for a few weeks and REST. Once he’s healthy, I’d LOVE to see him as a mentor for a rock night or even as a guest judge during auditions. But I’m fearful he’s pushing himself too hard and he’s going to drop dead on us.

“IMO he’s too nice and wishy washy to replace Simon.”

Gotta agree with you there.

Nevertheless it was thrilling to see him on the Idol season finale.

I really had never heard of him before Celeb Apprentice, then I heard he was at death’s door, then he won Apprentice.

Guy takes a licking and keeps on ticking and he does seem like a very nice guy.

My dad suffered with Type I diabetes and so I admire Brett and can relate to his struggles.

He has also has a hole in his heart and will have to undergo heart surgery within the next several months.

He was a judge for a couple of seasons of “Nashville Star,” (the country & western version of Idol). He was fairly tough on the contestants there.

My money is on Madonna to replace Simon. Think about it: she is a has-been attention whore and what else can she do? Nothing.

Did Bill Clinton have “a conversation” with him possibly to offer him a job. I didn’t know Rahm was a big fan.

human beings can be so tacky and bitter...even on a conservative forum

written word often translates much colder than spoken

kids texting rather than speaking to one another never boded well to me

When Idol brought in the fourth judge last year, I began to tune out. When they added Ellen this year, I hardly watched. For what it's worth, I think Simon IS the show. He's smart, savvy and quite honest in his critiques. I've always said, "When Simon leaves the show, I'm done watching." I won't be watching next season.

I like the guy, but they need a biting judge to take Simon’s place.

I like the guy. He did great on CA, but he's no group guy. He can take the task and get it done. Nice guy.

He could coach the singers on Idol one week or be a guest judge during auditions.
