Markey: BP oil spill is 'criminal'; BP: Oil leak may continue until August; Powell on 'don't ask'...
Washington Post BLog ^ | 30 May 2010 | Felicia Sonmez and Matt DeLong

BP managing director Bob Dudley said on NBC's Meet the Press that after the failure of the "top kill" operation to stem the flow of oil in the Gulf, the aim of the next maneuver is to contain the majority of the flow.He said the operation will take four to seven days, and has a better probability of success than the top kill. The outcome should be clear by the end of this week, Dudley said.

White House energy and climate change adviser Carol Browner said the administration is "prepared for the worst," which includes oil continuing to wash up along the Gulf Coast. Browner said BP has a financial interest in lowballing its estimate of how much oil is flowing from the well because the size of the fine it will pay is dependent on the size of the oil spill.

Browner said that the government is in charge of the operation "At the end of the day, the government tells BP what to do," Browner said.

I saw Markey on this morning and it just appalls me to see these guys who know no more than I do about deep water oil extraction (which is nothing) opining as though the 45 second briefing they got from a staffer before the red light went on made them an expert.

Just so I understand, lets say BP continues to fail, then what? Just how much damage is a private entity allowed to do before they are pushed aside? At some point they will have caused more damage then they can ever repay. Then what? Who’s property is it they are destroying? And at what point do they have any rights?

General Tommy Franks said he despised powell and that he was an affirmative action officer.

Starts Tuesday. Imagine a storm picking up that crude-and-dispersant poison mix, and dumping it anywhere along the East Coast. What sort of effects do those dispersants have on plants, insects, bird, soil microbes?

What is really worrying are these “plumes” they keep mentioning on the MSM. “Plumes” is a misnomer - makes you think of an ostrich weather, all thin and wispy.

These “plumes” are really gigantic frozen oil *blobs*. The biggest one is six miles wide and twenty-two miles long. Who knows what it’s wiping out in its giant flypaper/glue effect.

One of the articles I read had a mention of another type of dispersant that is safer available in large quantities in a warehouse near the coast in one of the gulf states. It was a very large quantity, held there for oil spill emergencies. As I recall, it did not “hold the oil down” under the surface but actually did something more desirable and had the advantage of far less toxicity. I might have missed it in this long post of yours. Did you see that article and maybe keep a link? The fact that BP chose not to use it is telling.

I should have also commended you on your post. There is no way anyone could read through that and not think the whole think stinks to high heaven. Tar and feathering for the whole bunch of them would be too kind.

I would think the Markey should be careful we might just find out more than he or Obama really wants us to know.

Just like Obama, it has become painfully obvious.

Allow me to recap what it takes to be elected in the Communist Peoples Dictatorship of MA! A drunken lech and rapist, a coward and military turncoat, a rapist of young pledges in the house, a fat turd homo who runs male prostitutes out of his basement, and a crooked prosecuter who jailed innocent daycare workers for her own job bio! These are the scum who represent the socialists, communists, fascists, and anarchist who comprise modern day MA! May they all burn in HELL!

So now, the Obama administration is running the show. No room to blame BP anymore. They aren't responsible for what they do. Obama is now completely responsible for the clean up of the oil slick.

Precisely!

I don’t think they will ever get any oil, at least not from this hole, anyway. -First off, the casing and BOP assembly is damaged... and I’ll bet the casing down inside the wellbore is damaged from the strain of the riser pipe collapsing. Secondly, they are gonna pump this well bore full of cement.

Yep. As they drill a “relief” well. They’ll be pumping oilf from this baby for another 25 years.

Of course, all the smart money will be moving to wind and solar during this period.
