The problem is that the Obama administration will be the ones deciding what is hate speech. What is this, Venezuela?

You were saying ...

The problem is not the internet. The problem is that people are too stupid to separate opinion from facts.

Well, in the past and with big news organizations being the "gate-keepers" they did "keep a lid" on things that were so ridiculous and patently obvious as hoaxes and such ridiculous ideas, that they "never saw the light of day".

Now, with the Internet, the most idiotic idea gets "front-row billing" on someone's website. So, that does require a bit more common sense with people.

AND..., from what I've seen here (with some comments on the board, overall...) stupid ideas and idiotic theories do abound even here.

I'm sure that's what they mean.

However, I'm personally more than happy to tell others that they've got a perfectly ridiculous idea that they're spouting off about -- just so I can keep reading things without the previous "gate-keepers" ... but the stupid ideas and absolutely ridiculous theories do certainly abound on the Internet.

Yea!I think a good place for the FCC to monitor would be the three Terrestrial Networks,CNN,CNBC,MSNBC and any other left-wing loony broadcasters in the United States.

I haven't heard any So called Right-wing Talk Radio or TV networks threatening violence against our boy president. If I could type president smaller I would because this boy presently occupying that office is very small. That's why he has to constantly reaffirm that he's the president.

Hmm, why don't we start with the hate speech Bill Maher spewed the other day!? Oh, wait, I forgot, liberals get a pass on this one, too.

Seems to me part of freedom is the freedom to hate and to express it no matter how offensive it may be to some people.

You are partially correct.....

.....If you are a leftist, like Whoopie Goldberg, Mikey Moore, or Cindy Sheehan, you are free to think and say anything you wish...No matter how offensive to others.

.....If you are a common average person who isn't a leftist, you had better watch your step, opinion, and what you say.

I keep hearing, 'You can't believe everything you read on the internet.' This is always from people whose truth meter is broken or who have relied all their life on someone else to tell them what is real.

The internet is the best freedom of speech vehicle we have ever had. Those who love freedom know this.

Not as much as you think. CSICOP got started because paranormal phenomena became a "phenom" on the MSM. Uri Geller, Erich von Daniken, et al., got through fine back then.

You were saying ...

And these are the same groups pushing “net neutrality.”

Not from what I've seen. You'll find that groups talking about "hate speech" and/or the "Fairness Doctrine" (another item that some want to "revive") -- are not the ones who are talking about "Net Neutrality".

Those things related to "hate speech" and the "Fairness Doctrine" are related to the content of the speech that people are saying and giving out to others.

But, the things having to do with "Net Neutrality" -- has to do with all the "bits and bytes" flowing on the Internet not being blocked or hampered ... and allowed to flow to any other user, without restriction.

Net Neutrality is about technical computer/Internet matters (like TCP/IP and other Internet protocols), not with "content of speech" (as in "human beings speaking/writing", as is with "hate speech" and the other thing, the "Fairness Doctrine") ... LOL ...
