George Bush admitted the US waterboarded 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed.
George Bush admitted yesterday that Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the self-proclaimed mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, was waterboarded by the US, and said he would do it again "to save lives".
"Yeah, we waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed," the former president told a business audience in Grand Rapids, Michigan. "I'd do it again to save lives."
Waterboarding is a simulated drowning technique that the Obama administration has said is torture. Mohammed was captured in Pakistan in 2003 and is the most senior al-Qaida operative in US custody.
In his speech, Bush also defended the decision to go to war with Iraq in 2003. He said ousting Saddam Hussein "was the right thing to do and the world is a better place without him".
But he said he was not tempted to criticise Barack Obama. "You are not going to see me in the public square criticising the president."
In February he said he was "trying to regain a sense of anonymity. I didn't like it when a certain former president made my life miserable." This was said to be a reference to Jimmy Carter, president from 1976 to 1980.
Bush also talked about the role of religion in his life. "I prayed a lot. I really did. I prayed before every major speech. I prayed before debates. It was a very important experience."
And he talked about the morning of 9/11, describing how he had learned that first one, then two planes had hit the World Trade Centre in New York. The third plane, which hit the Pentagon near Washington DC, was "a declaration of war on our country", he said.

He is lucky it was ole George there, I would have chainsawed off body parts until I got the right answers, to save my family from harm!!!!!!!!
Good for Bush !
I’d have gone to work on him with a blowtorch and a belt sander myself.
I wonder if he regrets Medicare Plan D, doubling the budget of the Department of Education, pushing through TARP, setting up $300 billion more for Obama before he even took office, support for the comprehensive immigration reform, looking the other way for the first six years of his presidency as our nation was flooded with foreign nationals, formalizing the reduction of our national defense structure from two to a single theater of battle war preparedness level, taking a full year before striking down Clintons sign-on to the International Criminal Court, while many of our allies jumped on board due to a lack of U.S. leadership...
Water boarding? Why sure I can agree with him on that. And thats precisely why thats what he addresses.
Sorry George, get lost. You had eight years to get this nation on track. Instead you cut the track just ahead of this freight train.
ADMITS ??? They say that like it was a bad thing. Water-boarding, yes, Please do.
We’ve seen videos online and acted out on 24, certainly does NOT look like torture. Not even cruel nor unusual treatment.
Go for it!
And that is just a start.

The way I feel right now if it would save anything in this country do it.
The Guardian is a major part of the movement by the Left to criminalize the war effort in the UK. It won't work there either because Tony Blair was brilliant at the hearings and took apart every attack against him with the truth.
Didn’t we already know this? I read about waterboarding him two years ago.
What's that line from Pulp Fiction...."I'll send a couple of hard hitting niggers to work on him with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch"
Casting swine before the perps?
Such a waste!

I’m with you! Those liberal slugs in office are going to get us all killed. Stupid fools. Good for George.
That’s it. I prefer the belt sander myself, though.
Huh? "Admits"?
Heck Dick Cheney has been on plenty of TV programs defending the waterboarding of KSM for over a year.
What planet has The Guardian been living on?
Admits?
In the first place, this was already well known. And in the second place, it was the right thing to do.
HE SHOULD KEEP DOING THIS.
It helps people miss him, sure, tubt that’s not the point:
It taps into people’s frustration and sense of powerlessness, and makes Obama seem less and less by comparison; it helps conservatives who might run against Obama, and all other liberals.
I’d advise him to CONTINUE doing this, and doing so with a tone juuuust shy of pride and zest.
“Actually, uh...ya know we water-boarded QUITE A FEW OF THEM....Yes we did...”
I sure miss that guy. I admire him *almost* as much as I admire my husband and my dad.
“if it saved lives”
We know it did. They were able to identify the Heathrow Airport attack when it was put into operation based on what KSM had told them. That was a major terrorist attack that was thwarted.
