Los Angeles County Vote to Boycott Arizona; LAUSD also Denounces SB 1070
San Fernando Sun ^ | June 2, 2010 | Alex Garcia

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the Los Angeles Unified School District [LAUSD] joined the city of San Francisco and West Hollywood and signed on to denounce SB 1070, the Arizona law that criminalizes undocumented immigrants.

...The boycott calls for a stop of any official county travel to Arizona, as well as a revision and end to any contract with that state.

...Meanwhile, Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who last week had come out against the proposal, calling it "stupid," ratified his position this week, adding that as elected officials they must uphold the law.

"We need solutions, not boycotts. Solutions, not more lawsuits," he said. "Legal immigration is the lifeblood of our country, but illegal immigration is illegal across the world."

He added Arizona should be commended for passing SB 1070 and for showing the need for immigration reform.

...Also against the boycott was Errol Valladares, member of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly.

"This boycott is going to hurt the very Latino people it alleges to help," said Valladares, who is of Guatemalan descent. "Los Angeles County shouldn't meddle in or interpret Arizona law. This boycott is not going to changeArizona law."

I say don't give a dime to the Kooks there, but I have never had a reason to patronize the land of fruits and nuts anyway.

Why dosen’t AZ load up on the illegals which are legally arrested for their status, and put them on a bus to LA? Then see what LA has to say about the problem.

We Arizonans could really make it rough on the fruits and nuts out there in LaLa Land if we wanted to. Not only can we cut their electricity off, but we could also cut about 60% of their drinking water off by shutting down the Lake Havasu aqueduct.

"Shouldn’t L.A. County be supporting our own state’s economy?"

That was the first thing that came to my mind when this boycott BS started. They're BROKE!!

And I loved Brewer pointing out the boycotts would be chump change compared to the money they'll save by removing Illegals from the social service rolls.

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the Los Angeles Unified School District need to make sure they spell “Arizona” right - our side needs the press...

Yes, well said. Our children were never in public school, except for the last two........private school all the way. Our daughter was able to buck the storm...our grandson? Lord only knows.

I lived there from 1999-2004, it is a serious cesspool.

I lived there from 1958 to 2005, and you're right. It has become a cesspool.

Today's L.A. is a completely different city than the one I grew up in.

How about we give LA over to the Mexies now?

How about you ask our illustrious war dead who are buried in the thousands in L.A. what they think of that idea?

What do you think they'd suggest we do about this invasion and theft of American territory?

Try the South Bay (Torrance, PV, Redondo, Hermosa). They have smaller public school districts and high scores on the state tests.
