Al-Jazeera cameraman confirms some IDF claims of attack
Jerusalem Post ^ | June 4, 2010 | J Post Staff

Andre Abu Khalil, a Lebanese cameraman for Al Jazeera TV, who was aboard the Mavi Marmara told Reuters some 20 Turkish men tried by force to prevent the boarding commandos from reaching the wheelhouse and commandeering the ship.

Using slingshots, metal pipes and wooden rods they initially succeeded in wounding and overpowering four Israeli soldiers and dragging them below decks, he told Reuters.

After a 10-minute standoff the Israelis opened fire, according to the cameraman.

The Israelis are using FAR too much restraint. When an Israeli soldier disappears from sight in a violent clash and against his will, it's time to open up on the other side - immediately. Israel cannot get anything but negative publicity, not matter what they do, so they might as well do the right thing for their men.

Yep, it’s another case of Israel being proven to present the truth and the Muslims to be liars. It seems so obvious, yet so much of the world refuses to see. I guess that’s not so surprising....

Israel should have let a different country board it in international waters or have done this boarding in Palestinian waters. Additionally, why was it that IDF forces had guns to kill a bunch of passengers but no passenger, on a boat Israel thought had arms, had a gun to shoot the IDF?

It’s claimed two IDF soldiers were singly shot, but no confirmation has been made that these two bullets weren’t from their own guns during the melee.

This is a public relations disaster for Israel.

Obama on Cambridge police:

“I don’t know – not having been there and not seeing all the facts – what role race played in that, but I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two that he Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home,”

Obama on the Israeli “attack” on “peace activists”:

“I don’t know - not having ben there and not seeing all the facts, but I think it’s fair to say that the Israeli military acted stupidly in defending themselves against life threatening assault by a gang of terrorists disguised as peace activists.”

“Israel should have let a different country board it in international waters or have done this boarding in Palestinian waters.”

It really doesn’t matter as they admitted their intention to break the legal blockade.

“Additionally, why was it that IDF forces had guns to kill a bunch of passengers but no passenger, on a boat Israel thought had arms, had a gun to shoot the IDF?”

Have you not been reading the news? The 5 ships that complied had no casualties. The one Turk ship that did resist, overpowered 4 IDF and stole 2 of their sidearms.

The reason this went bad is that IDF went in to easy with riot control paintball guns and sidearms and did not have permission to fire until they were attacked.

“but no confirmation has been made that these two bullets weren’t from their own guns during the melee.”

The bullets did come from stolen IDF guns...2 IDF were shot, one stabbed, and 1 got head injuries from steel pipe beatings.

They should have done the whole damn terrors supporting ship since the media always blames Israel anyway.

Reports are that firearms were thrown overboard:
http://www.jpost.com/Headlines/Article.aspx?id=177475

And I object to your phrasing:”why was it that IDF forces had guns to kill a bunch of passengers but no passenger, on a boat Israel thought had arms, had a gun to shoot the IDF?”

Hmmm, the Israelis had guns to protect the Israeli troops;they didn’t board with the intention of killing folks. If the Israelis had wanted to kill the passengers, the Israelis could have (1) ordered an air attack; (2) planted a mine under the ship (3) blasted the ship out of the water in other ways. All of THOSE actions wouldn’t have resulted in any injuries to their own troops. As this article indicates, by an AlJazeera cameraman, the Israelis did NOT fire until some of their troops were overpowered and taken below deck.

“It really doesn’t matter as they admitted their intention to break the legal blockade.”

Unfortunately, it can't be proven they were going to do so. They were boarded far into INTERNATIONAL waters, not Palestinian waters.

“Have you not been reading the news? The 5 ships that complied had no casualties. The one Turk ship that did resist, overpowered 4 IDF and stole 2 of their sidearms.”

So? There were no guns used by any passengers that weren't taken from the IDF themselves. And then none of the passengers killed any IDF soldiers, even after holding them for 10 minutes. Only the IDF used weapons to kill.

Israel effectively boarded a ship international waters, killing unarmed passengers were were defending themselves. This will continue to be the effective mantra in the media, and it is a fair interpretation of what actually happened.

Unfortunately, if a boarded ship throws all of its arms overboard and never used them (the only guns ever fired were IDF guns, according to the JP), then it looks like the passengers were merely being civil and didn’t want to kill while IDF soldiers went on a killing spree.

Why did the terrorist “peace” flotilla ship not submit to Israeli demands for inspection like the other ships in the flotilla? Just let the IDF inspect the ship and then go land it. Why the response with steel clubs when the IDF has been doing these inspections for some time with no violence? Obviously the organizers were trying to provoke something and willing to sacrifice fellow terrorists in the plan. “Look at what Israel did to the nice steel-club wielding terrorists oops I mean humanitarians” they squawk.

I just LOLed a little. There is no such thing as "Palestinian waters". Geography, history, and current events FAIL.

I'd advise you read up on on, well, everything, as your ignorance is apparent, as is your editorializing.

“Unfortunately, it can’t be proven they were going to do so.”

LOL, you are very ill informed. The ships were contacted and advised they were entering hostile and legal blockade waters. On tape and video they admitted and expressed their intention to violate the blockade and go to Gaza.

“Israel effectively boarded a ship international waters, killing unarmed passengers were were defending themselves. This will continue to be the effective mantra in the media, and it is a fair interpretation of what actually happened.”

Yep, there are plenty of ignorant people and Leftists buying that story. There is also an awesome Pat Buchannon editorial I feel you would really appreciate, out this morning.

International law allows boarding a ship that intends to run your blockade. >>>>>>>

It was perfectly legal for Israel to board that ship, Shane. Check out 67(a) of the San Remo Manual (http://www.icrc.org/ihl.nsf/385ec082b509e76c41256739003e636d/7694fe2016f347e1c125641f002d49ce) which says it is permissible to attack neutral vessels on the high seas when the vessels “are believed on reasonable grounds to be carrying contraband or breaching a blockade, and after prior warning they intentionally and clearly refuse to stop, or intentionally and clearly resist visit, search or capture.”
