WASHINGTON - A top adviser to GOP star Sarah Palin was once dispatched by ex-President Richard Nixon to sweep Jews out of government service, newly released tapes show.
Nixon aide Fred Malek's role as what Democrats call a "Jew counter" for the disgraced President was already well known, and he has spent decades apologizing for activities that later cost him a Republican National Committee job in the 1980s. But he remains a prominent GOP powerbroker.
"The government is full of Jews," Nixon griped to chief aide H.R. Haldeman in a July 1971 Oval Office recording released by the University of Virginia's Miller Center on Thursday. "Most Jews are disloyal."
The Republican President, who resigned amid the Watergate scandal in 1974, said he wanted Malek in charge of cleaning Jews out of "any sensitive areas."
"We've got to get a man in charge who is not Jewish to control the Jewish - do you understand?" Nixon said.
"I sure do," Haldeman answered.
Ultimately, Malek turned over a list of more than a dozen Jews in the Bureau of Labor Statistics, files show. Most were fired.
The Democratic Party fired off at least 13 e-mails to reporters blasting Malek - who ran George H.W. Bush's 1992 campaign - and forwarded unflattering stories about the new tape. Malek was recently named a budget adviser by Virginia's Republican governor, Robert McDonnell.

Malek is not in Palin’s camp...he advises her at various times and likes her, and for the media to try to cover for Helen Thomas with an attempt to link Sarah with Malek’s Nixon days is ridiculous

He is not a TOP adviser...He liked Sarah and has pointed her to do certain things but he is not the inner circle of her team..the NY paper is trying to cover for Helen Thomas

What ties Malek to Sarah Palin is that Palin’s right hand aide Meg Stapleton worked for Malek when she was in Washington before returning to Alaska.
I knew Malek was an old timer but RIchard NixOn is a man whose policies we should never want to emulate.
I thought it was cool to hate the Jews now.

exactly...he even said earlier this year that Sarah isn’t doing the things that he wish she would do...that doesn’t sound like someone’s Top adviser, He told people that he saw potential in her...but for these yahoos to try to connect Malek Nixon days to Helen Thomas and putting Sarah in the middle is ridiculous

This just in...Sarah Palin’s beautician knew somebody who’s dad was a member of the Hitler Youth. Obviously poor judgment on Palin’s part and we have to investigate this.

Who cares what Malek did during Nixon’s tenure, he isn’t doing it for Palin, nor do I suspect he will. Then again, its the NYC Daily News, it’s reports will be slanted towards the liberals as it needs their subscriptions to stay alive. Its no longer the NY Daily News of the 50’s. This is pure BS and I expect it to get even worse for Palin before 2012.
