I guess that now he realizes that he is in a hellish place and predicament, and probably still in shock. God forgives everyone if they come to Him, even the likes of Van der Sloot. I pray He comes to God. If not, the prison that awaits him after death is 10,000 times more horrible than the one he is in now.
It doesn’t have to be rape to make your prison experience a total hell, Sky. Not sure I would agree about any realization of his predicament or any shock factor. I personally believe the wheels of psychosis are spinning fast in this Joran. There is the belief in him, predicated by previous experiences, namely the Aruba mess, and his free pass from that, that this will all work out. His confession, however they got it, doesn’t mean to me that he is in any way repentant.
What I am getting at is I hope he suffers. At the hands of people who (may) be just like him. From a certain perspective, that may be their “job”.
But I respect your belief that his judgment should truly come at the Higher Power.
I can’t help but think of these kines by Milton in regards to our “friend” being cast into hell on earth -
“What though the field be lost? All is not lost; the unconquerable Will, And study of revenge, immortal hate, And courage never to submit or yield: And what is else not to be overcome?”
The thought that he may survive and thrive in prison to be released at some future date is chilling in the extreme.
I agree with you, and I think those who are proclaiming gloom and doom for him are out on a limb.
I say he has an even chance to not only survive in prison, but perhaps even thrive.
