Rig Survivors: BP Ordered Shortcut On Day Of Blast
CNN ^ | June 8, 2010 | Scott Bronstein and Wayne Drash

Posted on 06/08/2010 3:13:46 PM PDT by khnyny

(CNN) -- The morning the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, a BP executive and a Transocean official argued over how to proceed with the drilling, rig survivors told CNN's Anderson Cooper in an exclusive interview.

The survivors' account paints perhaps the most detailed picture yet of what happened on the deepwater rig -- and the possible causes of the April 20 explosion.

The BP official wanted workers to replace heavy mud, used to keep the well's pressure down, with lighter seawater to help speed a process that was costing an estimated $750,000 a day and was already running five weeks late, rig survivors told CNN.

BP won the argument, said Doug Brown, the rig's chief mechanic. "He basically said, 'Well, this is how it's gonna be.' "

There was an earlier story in which some mining engineers reported this same thing. BP decided to cut some corners, and get the well operating 5 days sooner. The workers objected, but were overridden. The BP guy said, “I’m the boss, and what I say, goes.” The chief objector got killed in the accident.

I don’t see how this story helps Obama. Quite the opposite. BP bought and paid for Obama and the government. They gave Rahm a free apartment in DC for five years. It would be in the administration’s interest to blame the platform operators, rather than BP.

Yes, I know this is CNN, but a lot of lefties are getting fed up with Obama because he isn’t left enough for them. I think there’s probably something in this.

Moreover, BP is said to have a reputation for cutting corners, and has had more than its share of refinery accidents, according to accounts I have seen.

interesting... btw, that article is by the notorious Jason Leopold, one of the most unreliable so-called “journalists” in recent history (Plamegate infamy).... Leopold and Chuck Hamel seem to be made for each other

"In the CNN interviews, the workers described a corporate culture of cutting staff and ignoring warning signs ahead of the blast. They said BP routinely cut corners and pushed ahead despite concerns about safety."

So why did this administration award this same oil rig an award last year for its “exemplary” safety history?

Par for the course that CNN tries to claim that this is “new News.” The WSJ article was extremely informative. There are also videos available on c-span of very interesting testimony from workers on the Transocean rig.

The point is, EVEN CNN is reporting this...and obviously, the MSM has not totally picked up on it...

Any new coverage is good coverage. This story shoud be the biggest headline and the implications and damgage to this country are huge. It’s being downlplayed in the MSM, but that is changing...stay tuned...

I agree, this whole thing with the Kenyan being pissed at BP is all BS. He’s just trying to dig his way out and trying to place all of the blame on BP.

How do you know? I don’t think it was but I won’t rule it out due to cap and trade and these facts:

1. In the weeks prior to the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe BP CEO Tony Hayward sold 1/3 of his BP shares, using the money to pay off his family mansion.
2. During those same few weeks Goldman Sachs shorted 44% of its BP holdings, while Wachovia and UBS sold 98% and 97% of their BP holdings.
3. CEO Tony Hayward made $4.5 million last year = $12,000 A DAY – even since the Deepwater explosion
4. Deepwater Horizon oil rig owner, Transocean, made a whopping $270 million off the explosion and oil leak.
5. Part of BP’s cost-benefit analysis for determining how well to build employee housing included a document comparing employees to the Three Little Pigs, ultimately determining that dead employees were worth more to the company than what the more expensive and safer housing would cost.
6. President Obama just appointed his THIRD Monsanto executive to a top Food/Ag position in US Government. If you want a better understanding of how Monsanto operates, rent the documentary Food, Inc.
7. Carl Casale, Director at Nalco (manufacturer of Corexit) is also EVP/CFO of Monsanto.
8. Rodney Chase, another Director at Nalco was previously Deputy Group Chief Executive at BP.
9. Despite much more efficient alternatives, BP defied EPA’s order to find a more suitable solution than Corexit.
10. While they could have been testing this better alternative, BP and USCG were ignoring it.

Follow the money

I read the interview 60 minutes did with one of the survivors named Williams last week. He was in the room and sitting next to the exec and his story jives with this one.
+++++++

I saw 60 Minutes when it originally aired. If you saw the survivor tell the story how BP had the last say....you would know he was not lying !!
