LAPD Forced to Regulate Superheroes

Holy citation Batman!

Superman, Wonder Woman and Spider-Man have fought the world's most menacing foes to ensure good triumphs over evil.

But dozens of their likenesses who pose for photos with tourists for tips on Hollywood Boulevard haven't been true to their superhero characters.

The result has been an LAPD crackdown over the past few days on character, cartoon and comic impersonators that netted 13 arrests and citations and sent a clear message: misrepresenting the spirit of Hollywood will not be tolerated.

By Monday, even Elvis had left the boulevard.

There were problems and complaints from tourists, businesses, and residents. Characters were shouting at people for tips," said Ana Martinez-Holler, spokeswoman for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The chamber had received calls and letters alike, complaining of how some characters "were downright nasty if you didn't fork over a tip," according to one letter writer. For years, Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin and Elvis impersonators had worked alongside superheroes near Grauman's Chinese Theatre to pose with tourists. But those innocent tributes to Tinseltown evolved over time into an aggressive competition for tips and turf as more Jack Sparrows and Spider-Mans, Darth Vaders and Freddy Kruegers moved in.

For some reason, I’m reminded of this episode of the old Dragnet show:

I watched that Dragnet, excellent choice. I like the way the changed the “names of the innocent” to Captain Lightning, Wizard Boy, Commander Jupiter and Flame Boy. I am sure that Captain Marvel and the Human Torch, etc. were relieved not to be formally associated with that phony! I wish we had criminals like that today! (I do suspect that when the show was broadcast, in 1969, they went back 20 years or so to dig up that story)

Did you say ‘Green Lantern’?
Reminds of the GL trailer with almost 2.5 million views.

Green Lantern Corps motto:

In brightest day, in blackest night,
no evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil’s might,
beware my power, Green Lantern’s light!

No, the “Got No Green Lantern” ... who was a broke guy on Seinfeld:

***********************************************

Jerry: “We found out his super power was lack of money.”

Elaine: “All right.”

Jerry: “He’s invulnerable to creditors.”

Elaine: “We get it.”

Jerry: “He’s the ‘Got-no-Green’ Lantern.”

Elaine: “Thank you.”

Jerry: “Hey, Elaine. Maybe his girlfriend is Lois Loan.”

Elaine (leaving): “Well crafted.”

Jerry: “He can wipe out his checking account in a single
bound!”
