State Rep. Nikki Haley forced into runoff in South Carolina Republican primary
NY Post ^ | June 8, 2010 | NEWSCORE

South Carolina State Rep. Nikki Haley finished first in Tuesday’s S.C. Republican gubernatorial primary, but fell just short of the 50 percent threshold required to avoid a runoff election with runner-up, U.S. Rep Gresham Barrett.

With 88.5 percent of precincts reporting, Haley had 48.9 percent of the votes, in front of Barrett with 21.6 percent, The Associated Press reported.

Haley, endorsed by Republican heavyweights such as Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney, faced last minute allegations of marital infidelity from two men, one an influential S.C. political blogger and the other a state lobbyist who advised a rival campaign.

Last week lobbyist Larry Marchant resigned as an adviser to Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer's campaign, after alleging that he had had a one-night stand with Haley during a convention in Utah in the summer of 2008. His move followed claims by political blogger Will Folks that he had an "inappropriate physical relationship" with Haley several years ago while she was married.

Haley finished well ahead of her three rivals, Barrett, a four-term U.S. congressman, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer and S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster. Poll workers reported that turnout was steady, but not overwhelming, and typical for a primary election, according to The State newspaper.

Anybody see John Stewart’s take on one of the guys claiming to have had relations with Haley? It was hysterical.

State Rep. Nikki Haley forced into runoff in South Carolina Republican primary

No bias in that headline, is there? Two months ago, Haley was a 4th-place also-ran. Today, she narrowly missed out on winning a 4-way race outright.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. We’ll see if there are any true southern gentlemen left in SC and it doesn’t have to do with Nikki being a woman, it has to do with the fact that it’s time for the party to unite behind one candidate intead of costing the party and candidates additional money.

To Jake Knotts:

It's fixing to be "GOVERNOR Raghead" to you, you grossly overstuffed sack of excrement!

Getting YOU gone is NEXT on the agenda.

Have a nice day.

Maybe I’m missing something, but didn’t she just thump the nearest challenger by 27 freakin’ points !!!

BTW, Andre, how’d that little bag of dirty tricks work out for ya?

Why should he? Something new may pop up on naughty Nikki at any time.

Soon to be Gov. Haley’s biggest problem will be contending with the likes of people like Leatherman, Knotts, Harrell, et. al. The job is only half done until these big spenders are off the government dole. And Bauer, who boasted of how good of a private businessman he was, can soon go back to private business.Good riddance!!

Yeah, two weeks is a lot of time for these jerks to throw poo poo at her. If that fails they can just try reminding people she has brown skin.

Count on it. Whether it is true or not is another matter.

The odds of it being true are higher than the odds on the sun rising in the west or obama being honest. But that has never stopped them before.

True. There is that old adage about finding fire where there’s smoke....

Just sayin’.

They tried the floozy tactic, and it failed (mainly due the the absence of credible evidence, since a candidate exchanging texts with a staffer, even at 1:00 am, is not unusual). They tried pointing out that her skin is a different color, and it failed (mainly because her natural constituents are conservatives, and almost all racists in the United States are liberals). She'll win the runoff easily, but unfortunately the next tactic is the most dangerous one. ACORN and the SEIU will be there to pack the ballot boxes and count the votes in November. She will need every decent American in SC to come out and vote, so that she can win despite the fraud that has become standard operating procedure for the Dems.

BTW, I hope the two scummy guys who lied about her never again find a woman willing to trust them romantically for as long as they live. Their actions would have been tacky even if the claims were true, and sleaze should have consequences.

I'm sure she spooks quite a few people. They really can't paint her with the brush they used on Palin and I'm sure that scares them. Sadly we have plenty of guys here who jumped right on the “burn the whore” bandwagon all too quickly.

Didn’t see it but I am assuming it was along the lines of the guy you find slurring his words in a bar who keeps insisting he has slept with 3 of the models from the latest SI Swimsuit issue.

Yep. And consider this: in the runoff, if everyone who voted for Nikki yesterday will vote for her again, and if everyone who voted for Henry, Gresham and Andre votes for Barrett, he still won’t win.

Time to step down Barrett. You’ve been beaten like a dog. Accept it.
