I can’t BELIEVE her parents let her do this, in those pirate-infested waters. She is lucky she was not captured, raped on the ship, and sold into slavery in some forgotten hell-hole.
“Maybe they are looking for a reality show.”
You called it.....it was just reported on the news that they had a reality show deal.
“I guess you would have preferred that she stay home and play video games like every other teenager”
I think your comment above is a bit of a straw man argument. Because I do not think it responsible of parents to allow their 16 year old child to sail the Indian Ocean alone does not mean that I condone video game playing instead. Sailing the ocean is dangerous in and of itself; it always has been and always will despite the advanced technology that most ships have today. To allow your teenager to do this primarily for a notation in a record book is plain awful. I grew up in an era where boys did a lot of tree climbing and rough playing and I allowed my sons to do the same. However, there is rather a wide difference between allowing your children free reign in local play and sending them off across the world, alone, in a boat. I cannot imagine anyone thinking the two are similar circumstances.
