JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – An unabashed U.S. Vice President Joe Biden told President Barack Obama on Friday he was sorry for leaving him behind to manage the oil spill but was thrilled to be watching the World Cup.

"I am honored to be (here) representing the United States. The president is angry," Biden told a group of dignitaries at the U.S. consulate in Sandton, near Johannesburg.

Biden, who arrived in South Africa with several family members about a day ahead of the kick-off to the sports spectacle, told the group not to take the U.S. side lightly.

The United States play England in their opening Group C match on Saturday and the Irish-American Biden expects to be in attendance cheering on coach Bob Bradley's side.

"In the spirit of a genuine Irishman, we are going to beat England," Biden said.

LOL!!!

Thank you for the good laugh.

I also heard Emperor Hirohito climbed up on the mounds of rubble of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and asked, “Who’s ass do I need to kick?”

How unpresidential.

Wish I had the image handy, but one of the great LOLcats pictures of all times comes to mind (an itty bitty kitten with squinty eyes):

“I has a mad. A tiny mad, but still a mad.”

THAT...er...game...is NOT, I repeat NOT, “FOOTBALL”! The NFL should sue their pants off;)

WRONG. It is known all over the world as football, or to be more precise by it's full name "association football" as opposed to "rugby football". Soccer is just the abbreviation used when contrasting association football to rugby or American / gridiron football.

Usually the simpler, more general term "football" is applied to the more popular sport in that country, whereas the composite / more specific term is used for the less popular. That's why in the US gridiron football is called football and association football is called soccer, whereas in e.g. Germany association football is "Fussball" and rugby football is rugby and American football is American football.

However, they are ALL called football.

Just moments before the afternoon session got underway, C-SPAN’s cameras picked up audio of Biden chatting casually with participants.

“It’s easy being vice president — you don’t have to do anything.”

Whomever Biden was chatting with said, “It’s like being the grandpa and not the parent.”

“Yeah, that’s it!” replied Biden.
