Arizona's Next Immigration Target: Children of Illegals
news.yahoo.com ^ | June 11, 2010 | ADAM KLAWONN

"Anchor babies" isn't a very endearing term, but in Arizona those are the words being used to tag children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants. While not new, the term is increasingly part of the local vernacular because the primary authors of the nation's toughest and most controversial immigration law are targeting these tots - the legal weights that anchor many undocumented aliens in the U.S. - for their next move.

Buoyed by recent public opinion polls suggesting they're on the right track with illegal immigration, Arizona Republicans will likely introduce legislation this fall that would deny birth certificates to children born in Arizona - and thus American citizens according to the U.S. Constitution - to parents who are not legal U.S. citizens. The law largely is the brainchild of state Sen. Russell Pearce, a Republican whose suburban district, Mesa, is considered the conservative bastion of the Phoenix political scene. He is a leading architect of the Arizona law that sparked outrage throughout the country: Senate Bill 1070, which allows law enforcement officers to ask about someone's immigration status during a traffic stop, detainment or arrest if reasonable suspicion exists - things like poor English skills, acting nervous or avoiding eye contact during a traffic stop. (See the battle for Arizona: will a border crackdown work?)

But the likely new bill is for the kids. While SB 1070 essentially requires of-age migrants to have the proper citizenship paperwork, the potential "anchor baby" bill blocks the next generation from ever being able to obtain it. The idea is to make the citizenship process so difficult that illegal immigrants pull up the "anchor" and leave.

No they're not.

Wong Kim Ark does not apply, and was bad law anyway.

Invasion and colonization is not a civil right.

Hospitals in Arizona have been promoting “anchor baby” tourism by advertising birth packages in Mexico. Want to get your pata in the door? Have your baby on American soil. Here’s the story. “Tucson Medical Center ‘birth package’ raises questions”

The tide is turning in this country against BO’s/BS’s socialist/marxist regime.

If the parents are illegal then why not say that any children they produce, regardless of where they poop them out at, are citizens of the country that the parents originated from. Not the country that the kid was born in?

Makes total sense to say that the children are citizens of the country their parents came from. Without the parents they can’t live on their own and are the responsibility of the parents until they reach adulthood. So therefore they are citizens of the country their parents are from.

Let AZ and TX duke it out for the capital location of freedom while the rest of the country gives up it’s freedoms willingly.

” and thus American citizens according to the U.S. Constitution “

No, they’re not. The drafter of the 14th Am. was clear it did not apply to children of non-nationals born on U.S. soil.

The only reason nobody is taking this to court is they are scared that the Supreme Court will simply rewrite the Constitution, like they rewrote it on abortion.

True, however the time taken to turn and the reason for it's turning is a bit concerning.

I’m waiting for the next immigration target to be the illegal immigrant named President Barack Obama!

"Targeting the tots". Nice.

At least we're not targeting them while they are still in the womb the way the DemonRATS do. Unlike the DemocRATS, we don't want to kill them. We just want them to go home. We can't afford them anymore. Arizona is broke.

That's how most countries do it.

Actually it's been turning rather quickly considering the Tea party movement started only last February. We're not going to win all the political battles or elections right off the bat but the number of victories will increase as the movement gains momentum overtime.

No, the idea is to block illegal invaders who have refused the legal immigration process the cynical use of their own child as an adminisrative mechanism to legitimize their criminality.

That was and is English common law, the child is the off spring of his father and a citizen of his fathers home country. All of the coolies, building the rail road, and their children were sent back to china, so said the supreme court.

True, however my my statement was meant as a weighing of Obama regime movement to totalitarianism vs populous reaction of disdain for it.

Personally, I just take it as a bit slow considering the impact it is having on us as a free nation.

FWIW, I saw one of these a couple miles from the residence last weekend as a yard poster...
