I commuted to Walnut creek for a short time, about two years back in 2000 to 20002. Wouldn’t want to live there.

I left over 20yrs ago.

Grew up there in Pittsburg (horrible place).
Moved to Concord off of Ygnacio for a year as an adult and moved out of the State.

I have found memories of Danville where I would get away and stay with GodParents when ever I could for weeks at a time.

Walnut Creek was fun reduce to clear shopping when the had the Emporium Capwells (maybe still there).

And the Sunvalley Mall was safe back then too.

Except for the year that the Plane Crashed into it at Christmas time.

We have some Freepers who live in that area.
One says they live in Pittsburg and its just fine. LOL Where?

Although I understand allot of the low income section 8 areas have been built over and relocated over to Antioch near Sycamore at the Condos. Horrible place.

I still have nightmares of my first apt. in Antioch.

Nice to wake up here in the PNW and be able to say “your home Dorthey”.

Where were you commuting from to go to WC?

From Amador County, nearest town at the time was Ione but I lived in the country. I was teaching at New Horizons computer learning center, just a hard right off the freeway. I hated going past Antioch every day, what a traffic mess that was.

That is a huge commute.

From Peace in the Sierra Foothills to Hell on Hwy 4.

true, I could make it in 1.5 hours without traffic, but at commute time, both in the mornings and evenings, it was about 3 hrs each way. I was glad when they finally let me go, mainly because I wouldn’t move to the bay area.

Antioch has basically become a free fire zone for the black, Hispanic and ? gangs.

In the past half year, gang members shoot other gang members on a regular basis.

Antioch is still a nightmare during commute time and about all week end on 4.

I left California somewhere around 1988, moved to Nevada.

I used to live on Bethel Island in the 60’s as a kid, many years later lived in Modesto. And also lived in the Bay Area for over two decades.

I live in Alaska and almost all of my family lives in California and the last time I saw any of them was 1994, I hate even the though of going there so much that not even a trip to Disneyland is in any plans.

California has good wonderful places but those are places that have not been invaded by foreigners.

California is a lost cause from San Diego to the bay Area.

That my understanding too where the Blacks were the “uncivil” crowd before the hispanics have populated that detail.

I thank God literally everyday for move we made from there to here 20+ years ago.

Raising KV here in a decent/peacefull community enviroment difinetly worked out nice.

Haven’t heard that in decades.

Had a hermit Uncle (maternal side) who lived out there.

And I agree with you San Diego up to Bay Area.

My destination (I lived in Alaska for a summer when 16 on my own) in life after the Military was going to be home base Alaska.
I worked at Gus’ Pizza on Sepulva (heck cant remember the spelling but it was right next to a strip joint and down the road from Chatta something Charlie.

KV’s needs came into play and we ended up on the PNW Oregon Coast.

No regrets.

And many folks here have a second home to retire to up in Alaska.

Most of those in our 3mile radious came up from Cali when We did as a lifelong plan to live here.

So far most of them are here and the thing is I can honestly say we never talk about what we left. Nothing.

First, of course, let's hope no one is burned in the fires.

Second, now where will they go? Wonder if they will voluntarily evacuate, or will they stay around, like during Katrina, and try to loot what they can, then complain about where the authorities take them? And then, someone will come up with a plan to bus them all to some city that is ill-equipped to deal with the hoodlums and the crime they will cause. Again, Katrina-syndrome will be repeated.

I know I sound callous, but we are probably already supporting most of the people there, and we will continue to do so when they are relocated. And, in gratitude...they will wreak havoc on the people in the new towns where they are placed.

Claycord.com reported last nigh that the fire is out.

The Shell ridge area is in the “healthy community” of Contra Costa County.

They have allot of pics of the fire over at that site and the biggest headache which can already be a migraine was getting through the commute with the fire going on.

The heli water buckedt were dipping into the big pond over at Heather Farms (nice family park).

KV used to play on the Hope League (WC sports) as a kid and spent allot of time with the League at heather farms.

Shell ridge is the open space hills and Ygnacio road runs from Clayton all the way up to 680 so it gets allot of commuters.

Concord/Walnut Creek area.

Walnut Creek/Danville/Lafeyette have all pretty much kept the middle and lower economic class priced out so the riff raff stays at bay or so that is my impression from reading the posts at Claycord.

And some not so happy posters whine about it.

If you go over “the hill” from Concord
to Pittsburg/Antioch there you will find the section 8 mecca.

Alot of families in the 1970 era migrated over to Pitts/Antioch for new affordable housing aka the Seeno homes.

Property taxes were low too.

Problem is the resale did not bring in any profit as no one who “knew” the area wanted to live there.

And truth as I saw it was pre MLK assasination the place was a good community where the races worked/schooled together.

Then came the Malcolm X mindset, drugs and other pollutants that just degraded the area to what it is today.

Those who didn’t accept that mindset left the area.
One of the black guys from my HS years never fit into the “muslim brotherhood crap” and he ended up becoming a fishermen North of where we live.

I was watching the news years back and he was being interviewed as having just lost a fellow fishing mate to the sea.

I was not suprised to see that he had migrated out.

The other friends of color are now LEO in other areas of the County, they moved out too.

Then like I said earlier allot of us white folks migrated into the PNW or wherever if Military that took us.

Then you have the generations of Italian/Black/Latino/Filipino/Red Necks that are rooted in that place and will never leave family ties and are happy with that.

And it is my opinion that all those groups are of the same mindset and that mindset made me very uneasy so I had to find a place of good vibe for my lifestyle.
