Immigrants are making Germany 'dumber', according to a board member of the country's central bank.
Thilo Sarrazin claimed the 'limited education' of immigrants - coupled with their high birth rate - meant Germans 'are becoming dumber in a simple way'.
He said: 'There's a difference in the reproduction of population groups with varying intelligence.'
It is not the first time the 65-year-old member of the Bundesbank has caused controversy since he joined last year.
In October he described Muslim children as 'underclass' citizens.
'I don't have to accept someone who lives off a state they reject, doesn't properly take care of the education of his children-and keeps producing more little girls in headscarves,' Mr Sarrazin said.
'That goes for 70 percent of the Turkish and 90 percent of the Arabic population of Berlin.' He added that they were not fit for much other than 'fruit and vegetable selling'.
In his latest speech this week he said there were 'ample statistics' proving he was correct about German intelligence.
He went on to say that in particular immigrants from 'Turkey, the Middle East and Africa' were less educated.
Because immigrants tend to have more children than Germans - who have the lowest birth rate in Europe - this caused 'a different propagation of population groups with different intelligence because parents pass their intelligence on to their children'.
Mr Sarrazin, who was previously Germany's finance minister, has not yet apologised. It is thought his position at the Bundesbank may now be untenable.

That difference sounds a bit exaggerated, but it is in the right direction. Amazingly, I read an economic piece the other day which said that the US was in the best shape of the Western economies because, among other things, it had positive population growth. If the growth is in the unassimilated underclass, it isn't a good thing.
What does one expect? They come from countries with very little tradition in education. For example when the Europeans colonized North Africa only 10% of the Muslim men could read and write and 0% of the women! Now it’s something like 60%/40%.
And Americans are being dumbed down by teachers and college professors.
The one thing we sort of have going for us is that our unassimilated underclass is much more assimilable than Europe’s. Of course, if we controlled our borders, we could limit entry to only educated above average immigrants and still fill all quotas. We are such idiots, as a country, on this.

I walked down the street in Barcelona, and suddenly discovered a terrible truth - Europe died in Auschwitz.

The contribution of this people is felt in all areas of life: science, art, international trade, and above all, as the conscience of the world. These are the people we burned.
And under the pretense of tolerance, and because we wanted to prove to ourselves that we were cured of the disease of racism, we opened our gates to 20 million Muslims, who brought us stupidity and ignorance, religious extremism and lack of tolerance, crime and poverty due to an unwillingness to work and support their families with pride.
They have turned our beautiful Spanish cities into the third world, drowning in filth and crime.
Shut up in the apartments they receive free from the government, they plan the murder and destruction of their naive hosts.
And thus, in our misery, we have exchanged culture for fanatical hatred, creative skill for destructive skill, intelligence for backwardness and superstition.
We have exchanged the pursuit of peace of the Jews of Europe and their talent for hoping for a better future for their children, their determined clinging to life because life is holy, for those who pursue death, for people consumed by the desire for death for themselves and others, for our children and theirs.
What a terrible mistake was made by miserable Europe.
Where do you get your figures? From frequent recent trips to N Africa, the illiteracy rate is more like 45% I am told. I will say one thing...if you meet an educated N African, you will be astonished that they don’t fit the stereotypical picture that is painted here. There are people who have moved into modern society and their formal education system is extremely difficult - FAR FAR FAR better than in the USA. Look, I’m not crazy for the freeloaders and what’s happened in Europe is a shame - I saw with my own eyes it’s gone. But you will find many many young men in Morocco, for example, with graduate degrees, Ph.D.s who are brillant and they WANT to integrate into western society, peacefully.
