In 2007, the Missouri General Assembly approved HJR 7 to place on the ballot a proposed constitutional amendment designating English as the official language of Missouri. Voters then went to the polls and approved the measure with nearly 90 percent voting in favor. With that, English became the official language for all governmental proceedings in Missouri. It also means no individual has the right to demand government services in a language other than English. A common language is the cornerstone of a cohesive and united state and country. Ensuring that English is our official language is simply common sense.
Another measure that directly addresses the issue of illegal immigration was passed in 2008. HB 1549 requires our Highway Patrol and other law enforcement officials to verify the immigration status of any person arrested, and inform federal authorities if the person is found to be here illegally. It also allows Missouri law enforcement officers to receive training to enforce federal immigration laws.
Furthermore, the bill makes it clear that illegal immigrants will not have access to taxpayer benefits such as food stamps and health care through MO HealthNet. With the passage of this legislation, Missouri sent a clear message that illegal immigrants are not welcome in our state, and that they are certainly not welcome to receive public benefits at the cost of Missouri taxpayers. 2009 saw another significant piece of legislation passed dealing with illegal immigration.
HB 390 ensures Missouri’s public institutions of higher education do not award financial aid to individuals who are here illegally. The law also requires all postsecondary institutions of higher education to annually certify to the Missouri Department of Higher Education that they have not knowingly awarded financial aid to students who are unlawfully present in the United States.

We really don't care what others think. To see how it SHOULDN'T be done in the Show Me State, all we need to do is look east at the Peoples Republic of Illinois.
Maybe we could come up with a bill that makes democracy the official government.

Let them (illegals, liberals, progressives, ...) boycott America then we can get down to the business of helping our great nation back to its feet and once again be the shining beacon of hope to rest of the messed up world.
I was just feeling a little left out that Arizona was getting all of the attention until BO’s disaster took it off the front pages.
Uh... the United States is not a democracy and the Constitution of the United States already requires that the United States have a republican form of government.
The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government
And Oklahoma and Georgia passed new, tough immigration laws a couple of years ago. And recent articles have stated that California and other states have had laws for a number of years that are not so different from Arizona.
The activists and slimy politicians just chose to make Arizona the place where they try to make a stand and stop states from enforcing any immigration law. And, of course, they've had total cooperation from the MSM, pretending the Arizona law is something entirely new and uniquely cruel.
Shows what low lifes we must deal with on any aspect of the immigration issue.
Missouri is not a border state in the international sense of the word so there are no protests. The weak kneed will only strike where they can make noise and get MSM attention. Before the Civil War...maybe a different kind of border state.

I noticed today that the instructions on a can of Campbell’s soup are in English AND Spanish. Absolutely disgusting. My ancestors came to this country speaking German. They learned English and I don’t think they expected the country to make special provisions for the fact that they spoke German. I’ve been dealing with representatives from Sears corporate office in Illinois lately. Their customer service representative has such a thick Hispanic accent that she is barely understandable. You’d think I was dealing with a foreign company. Enough of this. How about hiring Americans who speak the language and know the culture?
I don’t want any illegal filling a seat that can be filled by a USA citizen- I don’t care if he has pockets full of cash to pay for the tuition.

This country is a Republic.
We elected a democrat governor when the tide rose in 2008. So unless or until (1)some court rules it unforgivable and without compassion or (2) the 'social justiers' can elect enough liberals to rescind the law, or (3) NO money is allocated for the enforcement of the law; the better PR for liberals is to ignore the LAW and the citizens of this state.
