Former Hewlett-Packard executive Carly Fiorina, who won the California GOP Senate primary Tuesday, said Sunday she regretted her off-the-cuff remarks about the hairstyle worn by her opponent, Sen. Barbara Boxer.
"I regret this whole situation. I gave people the opportunity to talk about something petty and superficial," she told Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday." "This is a very serious election year about serious issues."
The Republican candidate didn't apologize for the remark, captured off the air during a television interview and posted on YouTube, in which she disparaged her opponents hairstyle as outdated.
Mrs. Fiorina said the contest with Mrs. Boxer, California Democrat, will be decided on the issue of jobs.
Asked whether she intended to soften for the general election the conservative positions that she rode to the Republican primary win, Mrs. Fiorina stood firm, restating her pro-life views and her support for Arizona's tough immigration law.
She defended her record at H-P, including her role in the California-based firm's outsourcing of 30,000 jobs.

Oh, come on, I saw the clip. She was just chatting away with the people who were getting her ready for TV. I believe she was responding to a remark by another person.
I don’t resent Chris Wallace for bringing it up. Apparently, it’s all the libs have to talk about and she got it out of the way.
I’m also glad she didn’t apologize.
Chris was on her pretty bad but she kept her poise and focus and didn’t let him interrupt. She did a very good job and I like her a lot.
I like the idea, but, is Boxer really THAT MUCH older than Carly?
I hope they listen to you ...
No, but Boxer will be 70 a week after the election in November. Fiorina will be 56 in September.
> Well, there are FReepers here who have told me that they’re not going to vote for Fiorina in any case, in the general election — thus, by them doing so ... they’ll be helping Boxer ... hoo-boy! What a deal!
Really? Who? I’ve been on all the anti-FioRino threads and while I have seen plenty saying she was a really poor choice (and I’m one of those) I didn’t see anyone saying they wouldn’t vote for her in the general.
A ball of lint would be preferable to Babs. I would vote for it if that was the only thing running against Babs. Naturally, I’m going to hold my nose and vote FioRino, but I can’t promise to not bring up her shortcomings in friendly venues like FR.

Good grief! If I tracked all the "loonies" on Free Republic and kept their documented statements here to regurgitate for everyone else "on demand" -- I would have a full-time job on Free Republic ... LOL ...
There were several but I just don't track the "loonies" I'm afraid ...
Now, there is one person who is not in California, who (if he was) I'm sure he would be one who would refuse to vote for Fiorina, because he apparently thinks that Fiorina is like Boxer ... LOL ...
That "rabid loonie" is "pissant" ... if you wanted to check it out ... :-) ... I only mention him because he stands out in that he makes the loonies seem sane ... so he's memorable in that respect ... but there are several others that I have promptly forgotten.
