Obama Plans First Oval Office Speech to Put Pressure on BP

WASHINGTON — President Obama will use his first Oval Office speech Tuesday night to outline a plan to legally compel BP to create an escrow account to compensate businesses and individuals for their losses from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, administration officials said on Sunday.
It would be part of a week of activities intended to convey presidential command of a crisis that continues to test both the government and the company.
Mr. Obama will press for the escrow account if BP does not establish one voluntarily. The board of the London-based company will discuss the idea and other spill-related issues — including a brewing controversy over a big dividend for shareholders coming due this summer — at an emergency session on Monday, company officials said.
But it does not expect to announce decisions until after its chairman and chief executive speak with Mr. Obama at a meeting he has called for midweek.
“We are considering all these issues and look forward to constructive conversations on Wednesday in the White House,” said Andrew Gowers, a senior BP spokesman.
On Monday, the president will begin a two-day tour of three gulf states and return in time for Tuesday’s prime-time, nationally televised speech

Previous presidents used this format to take on countries. Reagan/Russia, Bush/Iraq. Today our current president is gearing up to sue a company doing business. It doesn’t have an army or a navy or an air force.It has no nuclear weapons, no chemical weapons or other weapons of mass destruction.
Is our president up for the challenge? Are we going to support him and our troops of attorneys? Can we make the hard sacrifices?
What did 0bama know and when did he know it?
This White House is showing its incompetence. Putting pressure on BP is not going to plug the leak or clean up any oil. They are just looking for another fall guy to demonize. Watch out that you don’t become the fall guy.

The New York Times charitably gives Barry an assist. BP has already agreed to set up a pool of cash for claims, yet Barry and the Times are telling us that Barry is taking a leadership role in demanding this. Barry just needs to go out golfing and when he returns to the club house he is credited with earth saving actions. Sweet gig if you can get it.

The company where I work was participating in drilling several deepwater wells with rigs suspended by the Residential order, now we just get invoiced for the rig costs, no drilling. We will just send those invoices to Barry Petroleum to get paid by the escrow held by the Feral Goobermit.

Pressure? - does he think BP’s not really trying to stop the oil flow - haven’t they already agreed to pay all legitimate claims against them - aren’t they already helping to clean up the spill - he’s just trying to set up a straw man - I doubt that he’s tough enough to kick even that ass......
