UC Irvine's Muslim Student Union members say a year-long suspension came as a shock and that the university's action would deny Muslim students a sense of community, according to a statement released Monday afternoon.
Suspending the MSU would undoubtedly create a chilling effect and deprive Muslim students -- both current and incoming -- of a place where they can develop a sense of community with one another and with the broader UCI campus community, said incoming MSU President Asaad Traina. Depriving Muslim students a venue to associate jeopardizes their rights under the First Amendment and is an act of marginalization at a time when Muslim students and Muslim youth already feel besieged."
Campus officials at UCI have banned the Muslim Student Union for one year and placed the organization on disciplinary probation for an additional year, according to the Jewish Federation Monday morning.
Federation officials say they obtained documents from the university through the Freedom of Information Act, which show that the Muslim Student Union has been suspended on campus effective Sept. 1.
MSU members said contrary to the federation's statements, the student group has not been officially suspended.
The suspension is the result of a months-long internal review by the university following the arrest of 11 union students during Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren's speech on campus. Oren was repeatedly interrupted by the union members.

I remember a few years ago at this same university students wore Hamas armbands at graduation ceremonies and no one did anything. This is where Adam Gadahn came from.
CUT OFF THE HEADS OF THE INFIDELS!!!
right?
They can't do this at their mosque?
Their behavior on campus against another permitted group has caused their bannishment. The school cannot prohibit the students from meeting together somewhere in the city, the school does not have to recognize them or give them space.
What good little islamist marxists.
They have the talking points down pat.
Export their worthless hides to turd world islamist craphole, NOW!
Would the students be so ‘tolerant’ to allow the same behavior at their mosque?
They sure know how to appeal to the leftists’ sense of cultural self-loathing.
Not one picture of Claude Rains yet.
Banned for a year and then DOUBLE SECRET PROBATION!!!
“Durka durka mohammed jihad”
I’m stunned.
A bunch of libs cracking down on their favorite religion?
Wow.
They make it sound like it's a bad thing.
Last week at Lawrence University, a liberal arts college in Appleton, WI, my accountant attended the graduation of his granddaughter. The graduate’s uncle pointed out to his father (my accountant) that a group of students were raising a Communist flag on a nearby tree. My accountant didn’t believe him, so he went to see.
“Is that a Communist flag,” his son asked?
“Yes,” the man asked. “Does that offend you?”
“Yes,” my accountant and his son answered.
“Oh,” the man answered, “it’s just to show the graduates and their families where to gather for their reception after graduation. These would be students from North Viet Nam, Russia, China, and so forth.”
Appleton, Wisconsin.
My head explodes.
Just for fun, conduct a poll among the creeps in the UCI MSU, asking them if Jewish students at UCI should be allowed to form a campus group.
Remember, this is the campus where a member of the MSU told David Horowitz that she was all for centering all the world’s Jews in Israel to make it easier to find them and round them up.
“Community” is an elastic word.
Geez, he says that like it's a bad thing.
The libs will cave.
I’ll wager that by next week, the ACLU, Eric Holder, Al Sharpton and the like will have intimidated the university into seeing the errors of its way.
Most schools have too many extra-curricular clubs anyway. Are the students there to get an education or lollygag? Maybe the Muslim Student Union can get rolled into the Pakastani student association, the Indian SA, the Egyptian SA, The Saudi SA... you get the idea.
They’ll find a home with like minded travelers before the week is out.
