Is it too late to give Texas back to Mexico?
LIHerald.com ^ | 6/10/10 | Randi Kreiss

It’s not that I have anything against Mexico; love the country; love the people. It’s just that I would like to edge the state of Texas over the border and out of America. My issues with the Lone Star State, aside from the fact that it nurtured and launched the career of George Bush, is that the Texas school board has staged an intellectual coup d’état, voting in changes to the school curricula based on political and religious bias rather than educational criteria.

In this case, the board is pushing an ultra-conservative, Christian agenda. But no religious or political agenda would be acceptable.

This is a cautionary tale because what happens in Texas doesn’t necessarily stay in Texas. Textbook publishers are paying close attention. According to published reports, over the last year, they sent curriculum writers to the contentious Texas school board meetings to see which way the political winds were blowing down there.

Publishers are in the business of selling books; if evolution is a nonstarter and creationism is to be embraced, the publishers will tweak their texts accordingly. Of course, those same books will be purchased by other states, which may not concur with Texans’ religious theory. But Texas has 4.8 million schoolchildren, and business is business — or, as Molly Ivins, the great Texas writer, used to say, “Bidness is bidness.”

In the past, the influence of conservatives on the Texas Board of Education has been balanced by the liberal influence of California, the largest purchaser of textbooks. However, because of the economic collapse, California has put off purchasing any new books until 2014. So, Texas rules.

If Liberals truly wanted to save the country, they would all hang themselves.....

They might be very interested in joining the Leftist organization VHEMT. Just tell them that 'it's very COOL' and their stuck in adolescence brains will willingly abide by the enviro-whacko rules of VHEMT.

“I was of the opinion that we might play the appeasment game and give CALIFORNIA to Mexico and in return the Mexicans would need to leave Texas”

Good idea! And why not? It seems that a lot of towns in CA are in a mad rush to boycott AZ or become a sanctuary city.

But that’s just me...Speaking for myself...As a Native Texan...

I was taught to not disrespect a woman, but in her/it’s case I am safe to do so...

Add to all you said - the insane practice of giving "tenure" to failing teachers after only 3 years on the job, who can then do an even worse job of "teaching" without the fear of ever being fired.

God... please remember to bless the NEA with all that they have sewn for our children.

“Is it too late to give New York back to the Brits? I don’t really have anything against the Brits (other than the tragically inbred royal family), but it would be nice if we could get rid of the problem that is New York by pawning it off on the Brits.”

I think if we get somebody to take it off our hands for $24 we’ll be getting rid of a lot of problems!

;-)

I am not crazy about the panhandle as it is too flat for my blood.

Do you like wind? There’s nothing between Amarillo and the North Pole but a few broken down barb wire fences....

Just a minute there, bud. I’m a teacher, my mother, grandmother, aunt, and others in my family were teachers in Texas so back off. I do not teach homosexuality nor have my Texas public school educated children been taught that. You’re from Alaska, so don’t tell me what Texas schools teach. Certainly, there might be some liberal idiots teaching in larger schools in the cities like Austin and Houston but the vast majority of Texans are conservatives and aren’t confused about which way they swing.

It would be more useful if Texas would separate into the 5 states it was authorized to split into upon its entry into the county.

Na, no thanks. HOWEVER, Most of us would not mind linking up with Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia.

Eventually New Mexico and Colorado would apply to come into the Constitutional united States of America as well. But first they need to run off the over-population of libs. That would not take long as they would be cut off from the east and west coast, but still have a border with mexico. The local conservative population would do the job on running off the "liberals" in short order.

Alaska? I am surprised they are still here...
