It’s not that I have anything against Mexico; love the country; love the people. It’s just that I would like to edge the state of Texas over the border and out of America. My issues with the Lone Star State, aside from the fact that it nurtured and launched the career of George Bush, is that the Texas school board has staged an intellectual coup d’état, voting in changes to the school curricula based on political and religious bias rather than educational criteria. (NECN/News 8: Austin, TX) - A final vote on what will be included Texas elementary school history books for the next decade has finally been approved by the state board of education. Three long days of debate and almost two years of crafting new curriculum standards for social studies was passed. With the adoption of the new standards the new materials could be in classrooms starting in 2013. But the state legislature has to first appropriate money for that to move forward. References to the 'laws of nature and nature's God' have been added to the standards for the Texas state school curriculum in American history. Conservatives members of the Texas Board of Education voted to include the references on Thursday. They also struck down an amendment calling for students to examine the reasons why the nation's founders barred the government from promoting any religion above another.
