Is it too late to give Texas back to Mexico?

It’s not that I have anything against Mexico; love the country; love the people. It’s just that I would like to edge the state of Texas over the border and out of America. My issues with the Lone Star State, aside from the fact that it nurtured and launched the career of George Bush, is that the Texas school board has staged an intellectual coup d’état, voting in changes to the school curricula based on political and religious bias rather than educational criteria.

In this case, the board is pushing an ultra-conservative, Christian agenda. But no religious or political agenda would be acceptable.

This is a cautionary tale because what happens in Texas doesn’t necessarily stay in Texas. Textbook publishers are paying close attention. According to published reports, over the last year, they sent curriculum writers to the contentious Texas school board meetings to see which way the political winds were blowing down there.

Publishers are in the business of selling books; if evolution is a nonstarter and creationism is to be embraced, the publishers will tweak their texts accordingly. Of course, those same books will be purchased by other states, which may not concur with Texans’ religious theory. But Texas has 4.8 million schoolchildren, and business is business — or, as Molly Ivins, the great Texas writer, used to say, “Bidness is bidness.”

In the past, the influence of conservatives on the Texas Board of Education has been balanced by the liberal influence of California, the largest purchaser of textbooks. However, because of the economic collapse, California has put off purchasing any new books until 2014. So, Texas rules.

I wish...
Usually its the filth from California/Hollywood and New York that pollutes the rest of America. It would be nice to believe that something good could spread and clean the polluted areas...

yet there were no complaints when the lefties held Texas students hostage and changed curriculum for years. Conservatives are in charge now, deal with it

Someone needs to point out that Texas was won in a war fair and square.

Wow!

What a vile article.

No mention of how long Christians have had to put up with the Atheistic teachings in the textbooks, how many decades.

Isn't teaching up to the local community?

And her ignorant article brings up the question, why is California broke and Texas is doing OK? Could it be that Texas operates more closely to the traditional Judeo-Christian principles instead of the foolishness that goes on in California? That Tejas is a little wiser on their illegal alien stance? Could it be that Texas is more fiscally responsible?

What about the fact that America was founded on Christian principles and all the states are allowed to mention God if they choose to?

Do these dimwits think that if they try to steal our freedom of speech that we will shut up? NO! Look what happened to the fishy email: flag@whitehouse.gov.
GONE, quickly. We the People will not put up with being gagged.

Americans get riled up when our freedom of speech is threatened. Stasi-esque tactics make us uncomfortable.

“Now if Texans can just get enough Americans to get equally upset, they might be able to secede without having to fight a war or pay any penalties.”

I’d like to see about 35 states secede. We will get to keep the name America. They can call themselves Amerika.

Texas had 6 flags. Spain and France before Mexico. Mexico's flag flew for 15 years. Hardly gives Mexico ANY lasting claim to the territory.

“Texas would revert back to its independent republic status and be much more successful than NY. It would instantly become the Switzerland of North America”

I’m ready to go if they break away.

I just hope I don’t need $14K in gold to move there!

“Ah, the myth of ideological/worldview neutrality.

Secular Humanism, to these people, is the “neutral” worldview.”

The nuetral view that caused 100 million to be killed in the name of Communism last century.

Other goals of the new curriculum: to refer to our government as a “constitutional republic” rather than a “democratic republic”

Good... F*****g... Grief.

Ya know, This is exactly the kind of incurable mental delusional that is the poster child of the "progressives." Communist protagonists find them to be absolute pushovers.

I got a better idea: Let Texas secede.

Then she can go to Hell, and I’ll go to Texas.

Call their bluff. Torgue them off. My favorite comment was “That means we have to manually go through our distribution packages and remove YOUR address” My reply “Sounds like your problem, not mine ... I don’t want your garbage and I know you don’t want mine”.

Very cool!

It reminds me of what happened at a place I worked.

I worked for a dumpster company and although it rarely happened, we would sometimes get a wiseguy who refused to pay for the dumpster rental.

“Whadda gonna do about it? I ain't payin’-Ha!”

Sometimes the boss would dump all their garbage back in their yard.
