Ukiah, Calif. (AP) -- A Northern California man who fatally shot a family friend accused of molesting him for years was sentenced Tuesday to nine years in prison in the vigilante shooting.

Aaron Vargas, 32, was sentenced after pleading no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the death of 63-year-old Darrell McNeill.

Vargas said McNeill began sexually abusing him when he was 11

. . .
several other people ... came forward to say McNeill had molested them.

Hundreds of supporters ... asked authorities for leniency for the shooter.

. . .

Judge Ronald Brown said he imposed the harsher sentence because he believed Vargas had gone to McNeill's house with the intent to kill him, and that the use of violence to solve problems would only encourage more violence.

“Not to the one molested it isnt irrelevant.”

No, obviously, since he murdered him. But of course we don’t leave it up to murderers to decide what’s appropriate.

Liberals want pedophilia normalized, not punished.

Agree, the judge’s logic is unsupported by facts and experience in the real world.

Violence has cured a lot evil, permanently.

Vigilante justice is a symptom of a failed justice system. A harsher punishment does not address the problem, but exacerbates it.

Several people came forward saying the executed guy molested them as well. Men don’t just say things like that for the heck of it. For every man that admits it happened to them, you can probably count another 100 that will never admit it.

As a Christian man that believes in forgiveness as well as justice, I say that molesting piece of dung had it coming.

By giving this man a heavy sentence, the Judge is sending a message that molesters of boys have little to fear from their victims.

If men knew they’ll be treated with harsh sentences, I suspect most who’ve been molested wouldn’t bother to find the molester and kill them, thus leaving other male chidren vulnerable to the same horrible fate.

Here’s why I say this.

Women who have been abused or raped and later track down her abuser/rapist and kills him, usually get a light sentence or, in some cases I’ve read of, none.

I expect men who’ve done the same to get equally light sentences.

It’s called equality before the law. Men should demand it.

I suspect the molester of boys is a homosexual and courts tend to protect them; the molester of girls is a heterosexual and courts don’t protect them.

Maybe that’s the difference - I’m just quessing.

From the article:

Vargas' fiancee, Selena Barnet, has testified that McNeill constantly called Vargas and insisted on seeing the couple's baby girl.

I'd say he was defending his family from a predator.

I’d have sentenced him to two-weeks paid vacation in Vegas and a new car.

Wrong. Justifiable homicide.

Settles up the accounts fair and square.

You diddle me, I kill you, I go to jail.

Everyone ought to have known the series of actions would follow one another.

This was a revenge killing, not a killing in self defense. He deserved some jail time.

if you were 11 years old...buggered for years by the 40 something year old neighbor....then found out as an adult why you were so screwed up in the head......you deserve the right to exact justice because the state was unwilling.

He deserves a medal and a job offing pedophiles.

The shooter was drunk and is an alcoholic...Ya can't just go murder an unarmed person because of alleged sexual molestations that occurred years earlier...In addition, the shooter had a history of violence... Read the article.

But wasn't he a child at the time. How could he defend himself, I say this was delayed defense and appropriate.

Being molested as child might make one violent and tend to be an alcholic as purity and innocense are stolen, don’t judge a child who’s been molested by normal standards.

assuming he was diddled as a child by this guy.

none of what you say matters...he did the right thing...

...if not...then I agree with you....

not that it is an excuse but if the shooter was drunk and an alcoholic(and had a history of violence) there is a good chance it was precipitated by the actions of the shootee.

If the State refuses to do so, then it's God's job, not ours.
