House Republicans will look to force a vote Tuesday afternoon to repeal the individual mandate provisions within Democrats' healthcare bill.
Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), the ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee, will offer a motion to recommit on a small-business tax cut bill this afternoon that would look to strike the provision from the Democrats' healthcare reform law.
The vote comes as part of the GOP's "America Speaking Out" initiative, one of House Republicans' programs seeking online engagement with constituents.
The resolution takes aim at one of the parts of President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats' signature legislation, the individual mandate. Republicans had often protested the measure within the healthcare bill, arguing that it would drive up costs for consumers and that it was possibly unconstitutional.
Hope it passes!
Any word on the challenges to this health care takeover in the legal system?
Good.
Also, force an investigation as to why Hussein is not meeting the requirements of the law under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990.
Keep it coming.
GOPers forcing something? We’ll see....
A bit off topic here, but every Congressman, Senator and even President is just as responsible as Supreme Court justices to determine whether or not a bill/law is constitutional and vote accordingly.
I think the mandate is the most egregious part of that evil legislation, but wouldn’t it make more sense to wait till after November 4th to try to dismantle obamacare? Do they think this exercise in pointlessness (it won’t pass the house or the senate, and Congress can’t-YET-pass it over BHO’s veto) will excuse them from taking any other measures(like defunding)against obamacare , if there’s a Republican sweep in November? Seems like the only people this might benefit are the (allegedly) conservative/moderate dems : “See, I voted to repeal the mandate-too bad there weren’t enough votes for the motion to carry, but if you reelect me-” Gives them cover, IMO.
“Any word on the challenges to this health care takeover in the legal system?”
Not sure where things stand in all the suits, but here’s hope legislatively: the So. Carolina resolution if you haven’t seen it:

Exactly.
So, this is Contract with America 2.0 ?
I have a feeling they don’t expect this to pass, but only to force Democrats to show their color again.
“?..Gives them cover, IMO”
I can see your point. OTOH, the so-called moderate Dems that voted for Obamacare are already on the hook- any change by them now would make them flip-floppers. And it might remind voters that the GOP is serious about attacking Obamacare when they regain control.
“I think the mandate is the most egregious part of that evil legislation, but wouldnt it make more sense to wait till after November 4th to try to dismantle obamacare?”
No. This is a smart tactic. It keeps the most disliked parts of the legislation in public view, and it forces the opposition to support those parts over and over again. With lots of votes on record. Makes it harder for individual members to weasel out by pleading ignorance, because overall it was a good bill, etc.
I wish the Republicans would do this sort of stuff when they were in power.
Hmmm...So I guess what happens now depends on the pelosithing: Will it allow some of the more vulnerable dems to vote in favor, to help them? Or will it insist of the dems “standing firm”? The intelligent thing to do would be to allow some to vote in favor, so I guess she WON’T do that!
I see your point of keeping the public po'd about the bill-I just wonder if some dems can vote for this measure, and *maybe* that will placate at least some voters. Or maybe it WILL look like flip flopping-I really don't know how voters would react, in the main.
Maybe! I hope you’re right, and the flip flopping aspect will outweigh any possible “I’ve seen the light” BS, on the part of the so called Blue Dog dems who might be vulnerable.
Isn’t the healthcare bill missing the statement about how the rest of the law stands if one part is struck?
5:52pm Eastern update GOP Rep. Lynn Jenkins reports that the vote failed 187-230.
Forcing a vote is good, even if it fails. It puts the socialists who vote “no” on record as being socialist wealth redistributors.
“I just wonder if some dems can vote for this measure, and *maybe* that will placate at least some voters. Or maybe it WILL look like flip flopping-I really don’t know how voters would react, in the main.”
Either way they choose, they lose.
