Brown won't support 'cap-and-trade'; will hoop it up

Republican Sen. Scott Brown will get his wish this summer to play hoops with the president.

"He actually said we can play basketball," Brown said, referring to one of the takeaways from his meeting at the White House today with President Obama.

There, however, was some substance out of the meeting.

Brown said his meeting with the president covered a host of issues, but the oil spill and energy/climate legislation seemed to dominate. The Massachusetts senator said he made it clear that he would not support legislation offered by Democrats that caps emmissions.

Obama gave him the big schmooze this morning. Brown wasn't biting, apparently.

I’m sure the photo-op will figure heavily in his campaign in the people’s republic of Taxichoocets. Brown might want to test the wind. This could be the greatest gift he ever gave a political opponent. Like a Crist kiss.

Hallelujah!
This is good news, for sure, but the problem is that Brown is another wild card. You just can’t be certain that he won’t side with the rats on some Nazi piece of socialist confiscation scheme. Cap ‘n Tax is a huge one, though, and hopefully it will get thoroughly gutted if not killed off completely.

Isn’t he just a perfect companion for the Maine sisters.

Is he even embarrassed to be such a girl.

So Brown says he`ll vote against cap and trade, but people are bitching because he agreed to play basketball?

Once again I am startled of the inability of some people to connect with reality

Our choic in MA wasn`t between Brown and the second coming of RWR. We had an ultralib and a moderate Republican who is as conservative as one was ever gonna get to have a fighting chance. [The fact that Brown won indicates one day someone more conservative could win a senate seat from MA.

He ain`t perfect by a long shot, but is he the best of the ACTUAL [NOT IMAGINARY] choices we had?

Yes, he is. But we`ll whine about playing basketball?

Agree completely. While I think the basketball schtick is a little childish, that's still his schtick. It's one way he identifies himself with the working class MA voter as an everyman.

No, Brown is not going to vote like a Republican from South Carolina or Alabama, but he's not representing the people from those states. He's representing the people who had previously elected a Kennedy to represent them for the last - what - almost 60 years?

Sure. But he will vote for cloture so the bill can come to the floor of the senate and pass with a simple majority.

Wonder how he feels knowing the dems consider him the weakest link.
