He called her parents “Balloon Boy media-whore fame-grubbers” — without having all the information about their motives. He is extremely emotional about this issue.

Explain to me, then, how they do not fit this description by sending their daughter out, ill-equiped, in the southern winter to sail the ocean in conditions that professionals who have years of experience won't sail.

Purely and simply they wanted the record and the media accolades that go with it. That is the only logical conclusion. Were this not the case, the timing would have been adjusted to avoid conditions that could have killed her, as they nearly did.

I understand that she could easily succumb in stormy seas in other areas, but you don't tempt fate by doing something that rational folks would not do.

This is akin to holding onto a metal pole in a lightning storm.

That is all exactly correct except for this: “This is akin to holding onto a metal pole in a lightning storm.”

It’s more akin to telling your CHILD to hold onto a metal pole in a lightning storm, while rolling tape for a reality TV audition you hope to sell.
