Unexplained data usage with AT&T and the iPhone, many people reporting it!
Various iPhone forums | 06/18/2010 | TMMT

Posted on 06/18/2010 8:47:45 PM PDT by The Magical Mischief Tour

AT&T recently did away with their unlimited data plans. Forcing folks into plans for either 200 MB a month or 2GB a month, with fees if you exceed these caps.

Now Apple, AT&T and IPhone forums are a buzz with many people complaining about unexplained transfers of data occurring between 1AM and 3AM via AT&T's 3G network.

All this data is being billed against your data cap. many people are seeing up to 10MB per night being used and AT&T nor Apple can explain where its going, or why.

iPhone 3GS is sending lots of data on its own!

Unknown data usage early morning

Knock it off, unless you enjoy the sound of black helicopters hovering silently around your home...

There's something seriously wrong with that sentence, but I can't quite put my ear on it.

;-)

Thanks, but they sure told me otherwise. Hope they don’t change their mind again, I have had the iPhone since the first day, and sure plan on getting the new one, but I am not about to camp out in front of a store, like the moron in Dallas.

I talked to a guy at the AT&T shop about that, and he said that even if you upgrade, you keep your plan.

Quiet! I smell something...

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

We’ve been meaning to talk to you about that.

The consciousness of AC encompassed all of what had once been a Universe and brooded over what was now Chaos. Step by step, it must be done.

And AC said, “LET THERE BE LIGHT!”

And there was light——

So, upon reading this, I checked my Verizon phone. I don’t have texting or browsing, no data plan, just old school cell usage. I found a file for “data calls” and clicked on it. It seems that Verizon is calling my phone every day between 7 & 8 for 15 seconds.

I get those, too... However, since it comes from Verizon, we don't lose minutes, and it doesn't use data bandwidth. I'd be rather upset if my carrier was using up a big chunk - or, in the case of the guy with the 10 MB per day, if he had a 200 MB plan) all - of my data allowance.
