A few telephone poles and some heavy cable.

Until the power company installed metal guards to prevent them from using those 'bridges', local squirrels gave their lives blowing out 3 fuses and taking out a transformer in less than a month on a single one block long section of power lines.

Sorry, some other FReepers already put in their applications to hand-carry the poor little darlings across the road. I think they won the bid.

Squirrels have enough natural enemies - predators, drought, fire - without having to contend with an unnatural enemy like cars. A scientist referred to us by the Center for Biodiversity says researchers believe about six squirrels die on the road here every year but it is hard to be truly sure of the numbers because predators clear out the road kill so fast.

Hell, more than six squirrels die on my street each year. If there are 125 or so females each popping out one or more litters each year, there must be a predator roadmap to that particular squirrel colony. If not, the population would've long ago climbed out of the "endangered" category. Birds of prey must constantly be circling overhead.

Let these do-gooders pay to trap a few dozen of these squirrels and go release them in an area where they're not a featured item on the menu.
