Louisville police said a mother waited two hours before calling for help after her 3-year-old son was shot on Tuesday.
Police spokesman Officer Carey Klain told The Courier-Journal the boy was shot with a .45-caliber handgun after he was in the line of fire during an argument between his mother and a man.
The mother, 28-year-old Laquisha Mosby, is charged with assault, criminal abuse, wanton endangerment and tampering with evidence.
Police also arrested 34-year-old Shawn Martin and charged him with assault, criminal abuse, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, wanton endangerment and tampering with evidence.
According to the arrest citation, a court order had banned Martin from contact with the child.
The boy was in critical condition at Kosair Children's Hospital.

More one size fits all thinking. My 2 stepchildren would not have had a male figure in their lives (and my wife no husband) these last 21 years if their mom had followed your advice. I’m glad she didn’t, and based on yesterday’s Father’s Day celebration, so are the kids.
I suspect that there are many more cases of moms with kids dating quite successfully than the cases oft cited here, but since success is not newsworthy in this context, one hears nothing about those cases.
My G-d! A .45 could blow a 3 year old in two! Prayers for this child. He lucky to be alive. Shame on these two adult animals!

I should clarify. My wife and I started seeing each other when her sons were 14 and 12. At first we only saw each other when her kids were with their dad, but as it began to look like it was going somewhere, it became more frequent. The older son had reservations about it, but the younger one loved me from the get go.
It worked out in our case, and obviously yours dmz.
But I would argue that, more often than not, it does not work out. A lot of kids watch their single moms become serial daters, with boyfriend after boyfriend, which has consequences. We hear about the dangerous ones.
While I’m glad that things worked out the way they did in my life, in hindsight I do think she and I were self indulging at the time. After two years of dating we decided that we needed to set a better example, and we married.

I had one of the best stepfathers that a young boy could hope for. His teachings (through how he lives) have taught me how to be a step-dad to my fiances’ daughter.
I shudder to think what I would have grown up to be like had that man NOT come into the lives of my brother and I, when he did NOT have to and showed us what real men are like, how to properly support your children and how to treat a lady right.

Nearly two hours later, someone in the child’s apartment called police, who arrived to find him with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder, and another wound on his side where the bullet went through his body and ricocheted back. He was taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Police found the weapon in Mosby’s apartment.
Investigators say the couple has a history of domestic violence and that Martin was banned from having contact with the child due to a prior case of child abuse and assault. He was sentenced to five years probation in March.
Mosby was booked into Metro Corrections and charged with first-degree assault, criminal abuse, wanton endangerment and tampering with physical evidence.

It;s a FACT......the most DANGEROUS place for a CHILD is in the home of a SINGLE PARENT!! Boyfriends and other males are responsible for a LOT of dead kids. Glad your situation worked out....you are one of the GOOD ones, but the evidence shows otherwise for a LOT of kids.
If Planned Parenthood can’t make money off the death of a child then they are against it! Also prayers that the child survives the sins of the adults.
